    <HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->
    Hello Recently brought a X48 DS4 motherboard (updated the bios) with 2x2 Hyper X DDR2 1066mhz ram (4gb in total) works like a dream. However, I've just brought a further 2gb (not singles, one lump sum) of the exact same memory(5-5-5-15 timings) increasing it to 6gb. The question is, does it matter where I put the additional 2gb of ram?, is there a specific ram slot I should put it in - since the other ram is using slots 1 and 3. Also will the motherboard use it as triple channel memory? and if yes will it increase the overall bandwidth.

    Thanks Robert

    Re: X48 DS4 and 6gb Kingston hyper x question

    Umm No the MB will not use it as tripple Channel Memory as its only a DDR2 MB. You will probably need to adjust your Ram Voltage and or Timings in the MIT section of the MB to get it all to work. Now, Firstly What OS are you using? 32Bit or 64Bit? As if your using 32Bit your Wasting your time, and really you are anyway cause I think by putting an odd number of ram sticks in you will be running all of them in Single Channel Mode which actually decreases the overall bandwidth of all the ram. So I would either Get another Stick of the same ram or ditch the third stick and stick to two. lol.

      Thanks Nimrod for the reply. I have Xp 64bit and out of interest why would I need to adjust the voltage etc if I'm adding an extra 2GB? I've changed it already since the Hyper X requires adjusting in the bios to run at its required speed. Another question if the ram was 2 sticks of 1gb, instead of just one lump of 2gb, would the 2 sticks of 1 gb be used in dual channel mode since they would be occupying slots 2 and 4?

      Thanks Robert

        Re: X48 DS4 and 6gb Kingston hyper x question

        Oh ahh I see, sorry I didnt get that, yes if you have 2 X 1gb Sticks then yes duel channel it is. So your sweet. As for the Voltage sometimes when you go over even 2GB or ram and esspecially when you occupy all the slots the system will be happier with a tiny tweak to the vdimm. Im no expert on this matter. Have you tried to start the system with the two "new" sticks you've added only and try and eleminate a bad stick there? LSDMEASAP is the expert when it comes to this sorta stuff. PM him or get his attention somehow, Im sure he will sort you out.
