  • GA-EP45-DQ6 Q6600 G0 2.4Ghz 8Gig Corsair - How to fix Memtest86+ 2.11 test 7 Errors?

    Hello
I am new to this forums so please excuse me if someones has answered this - I have been searching the forums and found a lot of different bios setting, some seem to have helped but I am still getting around 100errors in test 7 of memtest on the first pass

Could any one advise me of setting to adjust to help?
I am using 4x2Gig corsair memory modules
    i bought 2 packs of TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX G
4096 Megabytes of DDR2 memory Two Matched CM2X2048-6400C4DHX modules

JEDEC standard 5-5-5-18 values at 800MHz
Tested at latency settings (4-4-4-12) at 2.1V

I am not overclocking my system(yet) but started getting errors in vista x64 which brought me to the memtest86+ findings

Originally I was also getting errors in test 5 and 8, i seemed to have fixed them now though (hopefully)

    Thanks in Advance

Well 8GB is alot, can you please give me the settings you are using now and I will advise back to start trying to help you get things squared away.

Test #5 and 7 are the ones that generally will fail if things are incorrect, since you got five passing sounds like you are moving in the right direction.

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

        Re: GA-EP45-DQ6 Q6600 G0 2.4Ghz 8Gig Corsair - How to fix Memtest86+ 2.11 test 7 Erro

        Oh a quick update
I ran memtest x86+ 2.11 from a boot CD last night and it passed test 5 67times with no errors
I then tried test 7 and got 72 errors on the first pass

Running Prime95 win vstax64 seems to be quite stable though(So far)
        Thanks again

          Hello again
I still can't get my computer stable unless I take out 4gig
          i.e. use only 2 sticks of 2gig
          Thanks

You'll find that with 8GB that some sub timings will need to be a little looser. Also your MCH Core voltage is possibly on the low side.

Try upping the MCH voltage to 1.22 then 1.24,1.26,1.28 and see if the errors stop. If not, leave it at 1.24V and loosen sub timings under Advanced Timing Control to 4-4-8-68-6-2, then run test 7 again.

Thank you! I will try it.
Im kind of thinking that one of the sticks may be the cause though - i just finished testing all sticks one at a time at standard settings and only 1 of them failed.
If I can't get it to pass memtest(atleast 1 full pass of tests 1 to 8) I guess it must be the cause??
Damn and it was the first time I splurged to get "good" memory too :(

If all other sticks pass but one fails in the same slot, then yes, it's probably your RAM.

Don't worry though, it can happen. Corsair are very good when it comes to RMAs. Look at this link, it tells you how to set up a return (you have a lifetime warranty) : I Think I Have a Bad Part. What Do I Do? - The Corsair Support Forums You can also ask the Ram Guy a question, he's very helpful.

They will most likely let you keep the good modules and just replace the faulty one. If you bought two matched sets, I'd recommend returning the pair, and place a sticker on the faulty one. That way, you'll get a matched pair back as replacement.

So I managed to get all sticks to pass memtest individually although one of them is definitely weaker than the others. The other strange thing is they seem to work better togeather in mixed pairs.(I bought two matched pairs of 4gig but if i mix them up they seem to be more stable..i.e A1B1 for channel 1 and A2B2 for channel 2 instead of A1A2 B1B2.)
                  I'll keep trying!!

Oh sorry I replied without refreshing my screen so didnt see your advice about corsair. Thanks!
When i said i got that one stick to pass it did tests 1 to 8 but one pass only - I guess i should test it longer to make sure it passes?
The other sticks definitely pass the tests a LOT easier - with tighter timing etc (which is why I bought corsair in the first place)

Hello and thanks again for your help.
OK here is where I got to
I ended up taking out the corsair sticks from the EP48-DQ6 board and replaced them with some much cheaper patriot ones
they seem to be working fine now and the quadcore is overclocked to 3.2Ghz
i'll update the setting later in case others need them

Then I took the corsair sticks and put them in my other computer(a GA-X38-DQ6 with Xeon3110 processor)
after a LOT of stuffing around I managed to get them to pass 2 complete rounds of memtest 2.11++(I stopped after that) however they are running at quit slow timings (5-5-5-18 @1.9v 840Mhz i think - the XEON3110 is also overclocked to 3.4Ghz :) )

The weird thing is memtest shows the memory speed as about 3300mb/s however when i test them in Windows I get 7500mb/s - 9000mb/s for read and write
                      Is that strange??
I am VERY happy the computer at least seems stable now - I would how ever like to get more performace out of the RAM - seeing that's why I spent the extra money in the first place though.

                      THANKS
