  • ep45-ud3p & 8 gigs ram!

i am wanting to run 8 gigs of ram along with a q9550 and was wondering what speed i should get that i will be able to run stable, i know it is hard to get 8 gigs of 1066 to run stable, but will i be able to get 8 gigs of 1000 or 800 to run stable with an oc to 3.6 ghz.

    Re: ep45-ud3p & 8 gigs ram!

I have 8 gigs running at 1050MHz on a P35-DS3 with an E6550 at 3.67GHz. The most important thing is to have good quality RAM, i have Corsair XMS2 and had to swap all four sticks of the first batch because they would not run past 850. Second batch didn't reach 1066 either as you can see above, but it's so close i don't bother.

    I would recommend Mushkin memory.

Hi Dezmick other forums have stikies about how to post your question and also what information to put in your thread. I see you were thoughtful enough to put the mobo model in the title of the thread.

If you just put the info in the first post it stays there but if you add it to your signature then it follows you all over the forum. This allows the helpers to see your info at all times and give better help.

        Re: ep45-ud3p & 8 gigs ram!

Most high performance 1066 ram should run at 1000MHz or higher. For the small price difference, I'd go with the 1066 ram. At 3.6GHz your lowest cpu clock will be 424 MHz x 8.5 and using the 2.40B memory multiplier would give you 1018MHz memory speeds.

At 8.0 x 450 MHz you will probably have better overall system performance, even though you ram would then be running at 900MHz.

Warning, several Q9550 owners got addicted to overclocking when they increased their systems from 3.60 to 3.80HGz.

I can personally confirm that addiction to overclocking is contagious!!
