  • AHCI Screwed up network(LAN)!!!

Decided to reinstall XP Pro from custom install cd with SP3 and SATA driver included.....
Install went ok, no problems on boot using AHCI.
Problem.........windows booted ok but the Lan icon had a red X on it and the pc could not connect to the ADSL router(modem router).
I reset back to Native IDE in the bios, rebooted and the pc connected to the router without a problem.
Seems AHCI messed something up but do not know what.Board is GA-MA790X-UD4P with F5a bios

Hmm Thats wierd. I assume your Motherboard model is a GA-MA790X-UD4P?? Does it detect your network adapter in windows. Have a look in your Device manage and see if its ok in there. It may need drivers installed? Its wierd that it works in IDE mode. Really Unless your Hot Swapping Drives AHCI is nothing more hassle than its worth. Sounds like a BIOS problem or something.

Yup, meant to say that is the board.
NIC (Realtek onboard)is in device manager.
      Drivers were installed
      Chipset drivers were installed.
Windows shows the LAN icon and I could set the DNS and everything as usual but something stopped the pc from connecting to the router.

Hmm So no funny symbols in Device manager on that network device? That is bloody wierd. Well As I said there is no real benifit from having AHCI enabled aside from the HOT SWAP abillity so if thats not your thing maybe leave it disabled?? Ive seen many debates and there really is very little real world speed difference. Plus I think It takes longer to boot with AHCI enabled.

That's bloody weird, I'm using a similar XP (Has every update to April2k9/Raid/AHCI drivers etc.) and it works just fine on AHCI, using UD3P here.
