  • X58-UD4P F8 sleep issue

    Hey guys, I can't resume back from sleep, simply I hit on "sleep bottom" in vista x64, then after I try to resume back, pc power on but nothing appear on the monitor, is that a bug in bios F8?
    I see people reporting that they can resume back, but they multi drop to 20x, in my case I can't even enter windows, monitor doesn't poweron

    my current settings: 191x21 = 4GHz

    F8 helped sleep/resume stability considerably over F7 BIOS. For some people F9a has shown even more stability.

    Also, maybe your OC isn't stable enough. If sleep/resume is giving you problems, fiddle with your DRAM timings/voltage and QPI voltage.

      stability has been tested for days without any problems / errors

      i7 920 @ 4GHz 1.28v [21x191] / QPI/VTT 1.275v tried more doesn't make any change, vdimm @ 1.64v
      ram is TR3X6G1600C7, timmings set in bios 7-7-7-20, other on Auto, tested with memtest no problems

        It's not uncommon for an overclocked system that passes all stability tests to still have issues with sleep mode. This can either be a BIOS problem or the overclock is not 100% stable (even if it passes all tests). Try increasing the voltages a little and see if that helps, or drop the speed a little.

          it is confirmed a bios bug, I don't know why people who haven't same motherboard / or haven't tried to duplicate same issue reply?
          My friend is using same motherboard and he also have same issue with sleep, so it is bios issue.

            You really don't think that S3 problems are confined to JUST your board do you? Sure, Gigabyte need to work on aspects of their BIOS to improve S3 compatibility, especially with an over clocked system. However an increase in voltages, or a tweaking of FSB/Bclk has been known to resolve SOME issues. Try 20*201 and see if that resumes from sleep better. You may have to re-adjust voltages at the higher base clock to get that stable of course.

            Nobody is saying your overclock is unstable, and your settings are wrong, but with bugs of any kind, software, BIOS (which is software anyway), fixes can sometimes be unorthodox, and not necessarily the first thing you'd think of.

            Please try setting all advanced RAM timings to fixed values rather than auto. You can see which numbers are being set, as the ones used last boot will be present on the left of the changable field.

            As a general note to all: I'm no environmentalist (mentalist maybe ) and understand the convenience of S3 sleep. However, why not just switch the machine off when you leave it? Sure it's a little more inconvenient, but if you turn it off at ther AC, there's zero power being used. That's better for trees and better for your bank balance. Little things like turning the monitor off manually if going for a drink etc can also help with the ol' power bill. ***This is not an anti S3 Sleep rant, and you're free to use it if you wish, it's better than leaving the machine running after all.***

              Does your S3 work at stock settings?
