    hey guys.
i been running the ud3r since november last year it's great. i have always had 4 gb ram 1066 reaper. it has always ran at 1.8v and mch at 1.1

i picked up another 4 last month and popped em in. it took a few hours of tweaking but i got it stable at 8gb mch core 1.1, dram 2.1v, and at 804mhz @ 4-4-4-12 to go with the bus of 402 and run ram at 1:1.
    stable 5 trials burntest.
girlfriend was playing sims 3 got BSD and now the comp won't post with more than 4 gb in at one time. the sticks don't make a difference (both tested) and the slots don't make a difference (red slots and yellow slots both o.k.)
with 8 gb in the board it will not post or give me picture, it restarts a few times. then stays on for a minute then restart again, the red lights on the sapphire 4870 flicker a little and it will repeat. untill i hold the power to turn it off.
also the model of the ram is the same number but the heatsink design is slighlty different my old sticks are the first HPC design my newer sticks are the newer HPC design

    any help apreciated
    Thanks alot.

    Re: ep45 ud3r 8 gb ram problems

Have you tryed giving a bump to your MCH voltage? I need 1.22V for my 2x2GB to run stable with 1066MHz. I know you're running you RAM at 800 MHz, but beying 4x2GB sticks you should need more MCH voltage to get stable.

          Re: ep45 ud3r 8 gb ram problems

Set MCH Core to 1.28 for 4x2GB (you might need to try 1.30 or 1.32 volts)
Set the System Memory Multiplier to 2.40B for 800MHz memory speeds.

Have you run Memtest86+ on any of your memory modules?
If not, run at least 8 - 10 full passes overnight.
You might need to run Memtest86+ on each individual module.

**edit** If you're using Reaper HPC 4GB Edition, the rated voltage is 2.1 - 2.2 volts. Increase the Dram Voltage to 2.20 or 2.22 if necessary.

            Re: ep45 ud3r 8 gb ram problems

At 1066 speeds, your memory is rated at 5-5-5-18, not 5-5-5-15.
This isn't an issue at 800MHz, as you can run tighter memory memory timings once your system is stable.
You might need to manually set tRFC = 68 - 72 with 8GB.

              Re: ep45 ud3r 8 gb ram problems

              hey thanks for the reply
i will test the newer sticks tonight. the older 2x2 was tested before and passed. and the 8gb passed 5 trial intel burntest but that's not 100 percent. it was also mem test pass but only 1 pass. i will test the older sticks aswell maybe one of them crapped out.

how do i change mch core if i can't even get it to post, and i can't even get picture with 8 gb in the motherboard now?

i can't figure out how it would not even post. or reset itself after not posting. with the 8 gb in after the bsod.
i just tried updating the bios to the new f9 but still no post with 8 gb in
will mem test ram seperatly and report back
              thanks

                Re: ep45 ud3r 8 gb ram problems

Did you load OPTIMIZED settings immediately after your bios flash? This is mandatory any time you flash your bios. After loading optimized settings, you need to re-enter all your bios settings.

You should boot with only 2 memory modules to get into the bios to make changes. If this doesn't work, boot with only 1 module to get to the bios.
It sounds like you'll need to run Memtest86+ with only 2 modules installed at a time.

Try not to mix and match your old & new modules. Put the old modules in the same memory channel (slots #1 & #3 or #2 &4) and the new modules in the remaining channel.

Please be more specific about your boot/post problems:
                - how many beeps?
                - if your mobo is in a boot loop (power on/off) how many times did you let it try to start up?

If your system still won't boot, turn it off and then switch off the power using the on/off switch on your psu, wait 5 - 15 minutes, and try again. You might need to repeat this step 3 - 5 times.

You can also try clearing your CMOS when your system is powered down.
Right now you need to get your system stable with only 4GB installed.

                  Re: ep45 ud3r 8 gb ram problems

i did load optimized defaults after the bios flash then reload all my bios settings.

i have no speaker plugged into the MB. with 8gb it tries to start then quickly restarts twice then stays on for a longer perion like 30 seconds, then repeats. untill i turn it off.
when i first baught the 8gb and popped it in it would post and i could change settings trying to acheive stability. wich i eventualy did. then a BSOD and now it will only post with 4 gigs in. the old set or the new set. (slot 1 and 3) or (slot 2 and 4) all combinations post with 4 gigs. it is 5 tests stable intel burn test with any 2 sticks
and i havn't mix and match the old and new sticks they stay corresponding.
                  thanks for reply

                    Re: ep45 ud3r 8 gb ram problems

hey profjim thanks for all the help i tested the ram (4gb) stable over night and then adjusted the timings to 5 7 7 20 and dram to 2.2v and mch to 1.28v then put the other 4gb in and let it try to boot about 8 times then i killed the power at the back. waited 10 mins then tried it again and i got it to post but mem test errored test 5 second pass. i then adjusted mch voltage down to 1.05 and now pass test 5. so far only tests i've done are 1 2 and 5 but i continue to test now that i got it to post with 8gb in.
thanks to morph and profjim for all your help couldn't have done it without you.
