  • Two different Radeon cards on a 965P board

    hi all,
Owning a 965p-DS4 board with a Radeon X1300 Pro currently installed (it's dual slot since it's a passively cooled Gigabyte), can I add a HD4650 to the other PCI-X slot?
I understand they can't both work at 16x simultaneously, since the board seems to be limited to 16x+4x, right? Will the 4x suffice for the X1300Pro? And more importantly will this mixing of different cards from different generations even work with Windows?

As to the cards even fitting, since they're both dual slot, will they fit? Does anyone have 2 dual slot cards installed on any of the 965P boards?

    cheers
    Ze

ps: I've asked a related question on the video card section, but only to ascertain if two different generation Radeon cards can be X-fired. So, hopefully I'm not commiting the capital offense of cross-posting.

Those two cards can't be Crossfired. Depending on the type (brand) of X1300, it may not even be crossfire capable, or may need a "Master" and "Slave" card, with the master having additional hardware.

You can only Crossfire with the same series of cards, ie only with other 46xx's. You can't even crossfire your most modern card with a 4850, 4870 or 4890.

You can use them at the same time, but onlly as separate cards. Useful if you want to run 4 monitors, then you can hook 2 to each pairs of outputs.
