  • problem with hd4890 and output and GA-MS790GP-UD4h

    here are my present specs
    my stats are:
    Motherboard-- GA-MS790GP-UD4h newest bios
    CPU-- X3 720BE running at 3.4ghz at 1.3v
    memory--OCZ 4gig ddr2 OCZ10664GK running at 800mhz
    GPU--EVGA 8800GTS 640MB
    PSU--OCZ 700w
HDDS-- 2 SATA AND 1 IDE
    DVD-- 2 SATA DRIVES
    WATERCOOLED CPU AND GPU

just bought a sapphire 4890 vapor-x. i completely uninstalled my 8800. installed the 4890 and plugged in the needed psu cords. fired it up and the gpu fan goes to high and no output. this is in the 16x slot but tried both with same results. put the 8800 back in and it fires right up. took the 4890 and put it in another pc and it worked properly. tried a different psu and still would not fire up.
i am wondering if anyone has had any problem with this mb and 4890. i wanted to crossfire but if i can not get even one going then there is no use messing with them.

    thanks

i think it is a motherboard issue.
i am at a loss as to why it works with on once pc and not the other. the only difference is the mb and psu.
hate to return this. i really want to run crossfire.

You checked your bios settings? When you say crossfire, do you mean CrossfireX? Or do you mean Hybrid CrossfireX? That card should work alot better then the Hybrid CrossfireX. You need a 3400 series card for Hybrid CrossfireX

i think you are right about the init display first setting. mine is set to pci(default). i will set it to peg when i get home to see if that is the issue. it is strange that at default the 8800 works, wonder if it is a ati thing.
when i mean crossfire i mean i plan to add another 4890 in the near furture when the prices drop alittle bit.

thanks for the tip, i will post results.

did what you said. still same thing. put the 8800 in and it boots up so the problem is the 4890. i have spent enought hours messing with this so it is going back. think i will wait until the new batch of cards come out in a few months.

Did you remove your 8800 software and drivers from your system before you installed your new video card?
Even if you did, download and run Drive Sweeper to fully purge your system of the older drivers and software, and then install your new drivers.

i did all that. i always do that when i change drivers too.

the problem was not a driver one as the card would go 100% on bootup and there was no video from the start. if it was driver it would of dropped down and i could of seen the post screen on boot up.

it will be delivered today and i will try it tonight to see if it is a compatiblity issue.

got the new one and plugged it in, same thing. i believe it is a compatiblity issue with either the mb or psu.
plugged the card in on another pc and it fires right up. sending it back for the last time.

my 8800 works like a charm so i dont think it is the psu. i lean mb.

You can't crossfireX Nvidia or Geforce cards and your motherboard does not support SLI. You may want to consider this when purchases are made. You surely should try another power supply. Could you borrow one from another system and try it?

Quite the opposite for me, I hate Nvidia due to past issues. And actually the ATI Brand I prefer and suggest to customers is Sapphire.

So you still need help with something or no?
