• Q9550-XMS2 1066-UD3R OC help

I have a q9550 E0, the newer corsair XMS2 (8500C5C G) 2 x 2 1066 RAM and a Gigabyte Ud3r currently at 3.65Ghz with 1.28125 vcore and everything else auto. the RAM timings are stock 5-6-6-18 and is at 2.1v with the multiplier at 2.40B making the RAM 1032Mhz as close to 1066Mhz as possible. I know for anything more I need to underclock the RAM to 2.00D. I want to get to 4Ghz but know to change more settings like timings and other voltages. what settings should I change to get say... 3.83ghz. I dont really know how to pass where im at stably.
Thanks <!-- / message -->

Re: Q9550-XMS2 1066-UD3R OC help

PLEASE Set your own Vtt and PLL, auto gives way to much.

For 3.825 you can try 450 FSB and try 2.40B ram multi for 1080. But what you shold do first is underclock the ram until you find where you want to keep your CPU. Then worry about the ram

But please do set your own voltage, especially Vtt (CPU Termination) and PLL, and for 4Gb of ram you likely need 1.20-1.24 MCH Core voltage as well.

ok, what would be a good vcore for 3.825.. Im hoping my 1.28125 is enough. and I heard if I manually set the PLL to 1.5v it helps. my termination is already 1.2v. one more thing, does the ram need any type of tweaking? because I have no idea, besides multiplier, how to adjust timings right.

Re: Q9550-XMS2 1066-UD3R OC help

As conners Says, your RAM is spec'd at 5-5-5-15, not 5-6-6-18. I have identical RAM and can confirm those timings at 2.1V.

My particular XMS2 will handle up to DDR-1100 OK but much above that is a fail. The XMS range of RAM is usually binned pretty close to its rated speeds and doesn't have that much head room in it. One reason why it's a reasonable price.

The template Connors has given is good. You may need to use diferent vcore and VTT (CPU Termination) as each CPU is different, but those settings are a nice place to work from indeed.

no its this RAM Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-8500C5C G - Desktop Memory
The timings are a bit different and has better cooling.

anyways, I tried that template and it failed, Im a 3.65 with 1.25vcore 1.22termination 1.50PLL 1.2MCH core RAM 2.1v and everything else auto with the ram at 1032MHz stable. Ill probably stay there. I got into windows at 3.83ghz but failed prime in 10-15 mins

Re: Q9550-XMS2 1066-UD3R OC help

put cpu term back to 1.2 then manually change cpu and MCH reference voltages to .760v. Then go back to CPU Term and set back to 1.22. and give it a whirl on testing.

After that you may need to increase vcore, cpu term, mch term and or mch voltage. Change only one at a time then test or I can walk you through the changes.

Run IBT then P95 small FFT and see it goes.

Oh and set your ram to whats on the side of the stick. (5-6-6-18 @2.1V) You may need to change some of your advanced timings. Can you get us a screenie of memset?
