  • GA-EP45-UD3P installation: lost DVD/CDROM

    Hi folks

I just upgraded my motherboard to the EP45-UD3P. The CPU is a Q9400, the OS is Windows XP, and theres 4 gigs of memory. HDD is plugged into a the yellow SATA port as are the back panel SATA ports (though I don't have any plans for them for now).

Everything worked great from first power up, I'm using it right now! But after installing the GIGABYTE utility DVD (ver 1.06), I have lost access to the Sony DVD writer and the LiteOn CD Writer on the IDE port. Neither of these devices are now working properly, even though the operating system says they are.

When I up explorer or My Computer, the drive is listed. If I click on the the drive to show the contents, the computer essentially 'hangs'. I have to do the three finger salute to bring up Task Manager. I have to manually eject the CD to break the hang (with out rebooting that is).

If I go to Device Manager, again the devices are listed, but oddly enough, they named as being SCSI devices even though they are IDE and on the IDE port. If I uninstall the devices in the Device Manager and do a power down and then a restart, the OS reinstalls them automagically without going through a new hardware found dialog sequence.

    Has anybody seen this before?

Got any hints about what I should try next?

It sounds like you used the cd that came with the motherboard to install drivers using the option to install all drivers. This is good and bad. Good because it does everything for you. Bad because it does everything for you. It sounds like it installed Gigabyte raid driver. I would go through the add/remove programs and uninstall any gigabyte software. You should only need the intel chipset driver since your not using raid. I have a dvd burner connected to the 40pin ribon ide port and no software needed to alow drive to be seen by windows. Also make sure you have set up the bios correctly if you are not using raid.

      Yeap ^^^

Express install will install all drivers, including the wrong ones.

Please uninstall all drivers in safe mode and then only install the latest Intel Chipset drivers here >>>
Download Software, Drivers and Utilities Filters

Plug your OS Drive into ther First Yellow port (SATA2_0) and then put your cd/dvd drives on the last two 4/5. If you do not plan to use external eSATA you can just leave the brackets out of your system

Men of genius, the world salutes you.

I uninstalled the Gigabyte Raid Configurer in the Control Panel, and it seems to have uninstalled the unappropriate drivers at the same time.

At reboot, the OS automatically installed the correct drivers, and all appears to be sweetness and light.

        Thanks, muchly!

Nice to see you got it!!

Yeap, I never use or suggest any driver that comes on a CD. They are always old and the latest can always be obtained from the manufacturer page or direct from the source
