  • Newby wants to try Hicookie's Overclock Profile,Help!

I am new here and new to my Gigabyte X58 Extreme MOBO with the Intel i7 Processor. I did find Hicookie's Overclock Profile listed in the BIOS page and dowloaded it. Extracted it to my Floppy disk which showed I now had a .dat file. This doesnt show up this way at the end of Hicookie's Tutorial on Overclocking. I just shows 920A4G 288. Should I rename this by taking out the .dat? Also When I am in the BIOS and hit F12 and actually install this do I make sure to hit Optimize Settings to set this Overclock Profile for sure? Any help would be appreciated and a step by step I wouldnt mind.

don't bother, it was made with an older bios

No, the dat file is what you load within the BIOS load profile page. On the Main page hit F12 and navigate to the profile. No you would only load optimized and save/apply/reboot and then set your disk settings, then load the profile and check disk settings again then save/apply and that would be it.

But really, I do suggest against using that profile as it was made for a very old BIOS.

Ya..Almost screwed myself on that one. BIOS did recover though. Not sure everthing is OK though, but it is posting and booting fine for now. Are there any step by step instructions on getting 4MHz out of my Intel i7 though? Thanks for the repleys also.

Anytime, I try to help as much as I can when I can!

Well I'd be on the safe side and go ahead and load optimized defaults again and save/apply/reboot to be sure everything is good to go. I also suggest you update to the latest Beta BIOS if you have not already >>

And Please read this guide for tips and warnings about flashing and loading optimized defaults >>

I can help you for sure with settings, but I need you to post your full specs and a link to your ram. Also let me know what cooler you have, just in case I need to tell you 4Ghz is to much for your cooler, hope not :)

Re: Newby wants to try Hicookie's Overclock Profile,Help!

Thanks for the repley. I did just update the BIOS to the F9a for my GA-EX58 Extreme MOBO with great success! Whew! The Q-Flash and a good Ol' Floppy work great! The MOBO is the one I just mentioned above and using the Intel i7 920 Processor w/DO Stepping. Covered with a Cooler Master V8 CPU Cooler and using OCZ Gold XTC OCZ3G1600LV2G Memory.
Timings=@ 533 MHz 7-7-7-16 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 27-59-4-8-4-4 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP) @ 457 MHz 6-6-6-14 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 23-51-4-7-4-4 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP) @ 380 MHz 5-5-5-12 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 19-42-3-6-3-3 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP). I do have a question about my Cooler Master V8. Since it has an outboard Reo-Stat for the V8 Fan control should I disable the CPU Smart Fan Control in the BIOS? Just thought I would ask. My GPU is a XFX Geforce 9800GTX. Let me know if you need more info on my system please. Thanks Also, I am using the Hybrid Silent-Pipe Module included with the MOBO to cool the North Bridge Heat Sink.

Re: Newby wants to try Hicookie's Overclock Profile,Help!

Ya, if you are using some other control for your fan then you want to disable fan control in the BIOS

So you want 4Ghz right? I'll assume so for now, not sure how good your cooler is but you should soon find out :)
