  • MA785GM-U2SH resume from sleep issue

Hope someone can help with this.
I have just purchased a MA785GM-U2SH m/b for my htpc and am having issues when resuming from the sleep state. It happily goes to sleep but on resume the whole thing locks up for about 3 minutes and then all is ok. The only thing that works is the mouse cursor moving around the screen. Clicking on anything fails to do anything until it comes back to life and then it actions what you tried to click on.
Latest bios has been loaded and all power setting changes I can think of and find on the net have failed to fix it.
I am running with the 5050e processor and 2gb ram. OS is win7 RC7100 with all updates available. Reinstalled win7 last night and installed nothing but the windows video driver and it failed. Then loaded latest ATI drivers and still fails.
    Any ideas please???

Since you are using the latest BIOS you likely need to adjust some things still, sorry I can't help with this much though as I am an Intel user myself.

ArtDrivers will likely be by to help you with settings, so can you please post your full specs and settings so he can advise you once he stops in?

Sure I have a few ideas. Unfortunately they may be wrong. Your cpu does not work that well with Windows 7 balanced mode in power options. You may want to set it to Performance mode. Have you researched Windows 7 Power Settings? How to Manage Windows 7 Power Settings - EnterpriseITplanet.com / Green

Thanks for that. My specs areno showing.
I have taken the 2 tuner cards out prior to the rebuild to eliminate those from the equation. Nothing is showing in the event viewer as being an issue. It just states that it resumes from sleep approx 3-4min after I actually hit the button to do so.

Can you test on a clean install with no programs or drivers installed?

Re: MA785GM-U2SH resume from sleep issue

I did a clean install the other night.

Tried setting sleep function straight away but it wasn't as option until I installed a video driver. The only options were to turn off or hibernate.
First driver installed was windows video driver which then gave the option of putting the computer to sleep. Then installed latest catalyst stuff from ATI. Same result.
Is that normal that sleep wasn't an option until a video driver of some sort was installed? Under sleep in power settings only offered turn off and hibernate. Strange???

Am going to try disconnecting hdd's tonight and maybe install on a different disk. Clutching at straws but I have nothing to loose.

Re: MA785GM-U2SH resume from sleep issue

Hmm, video drivers should have nothing to do with sleep options, so no that is not normal. Could be with AMD though, not sure, but if it is it doesn't make any sense

Did you have S3 enabled in the BIOS?

Well good luck with your disk tests, hopefully you can narrow it down. This testing is all at stock cpu clocks right? Memory voltage manually set?

cruisor80 do you have any USB devices?
You may want to go into bios and disable C1E. By default it should be disabled.
Don't forget to save and exit.

Re: MA785GM-U2SH resume from sleep issue

Well thanks for all the suggestions and I have worked it out.
I had the bios setting for the sata drive at ide rather than ahci as I was told that ahci is only really usfull for raid. Well that ended up being wrong and as soon as I changed it and re-installed it all worked straight away as it should.
I did have to install video drivers to get the sleep option but I had read that it can happen with an incompatable driver. Its now resuming from sleep in a second or so and no freezing.
I will be checking those other settings in bios mentioned as Im still learning what they all are.

                      Happy days

AHCI is not used for RAID At all, only AHCI uses AHCI Settings/drivers, so you were misinformed from the get go.

Anyway, glad to hear you have it all fixed up now, post back anytime if you need help with anything else!
