  • First time overclocking i7 920 with GA-EX58-UD5. I'm stuck!

This is my first time overclocking. OCCT 3.1.0 gives an error when the CPU is running at 3600MHz. I've made two BIOS screenshots. Are these settings ok? Any tips?

    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5
    BIOS: F7
    Memory: Mushkin Redline XP3-12800 998691 (3x2GB)
    Frequency: 1600MHz
    Latency: 6-7-6-18
    Graphics Card: Asus ENGTX285/HTDP/1GD3
Power Supply: Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 850W

for 3.6 you dont need so many cpu volts or qpi,all you need to do is load defaults again keep everything enabled and on auto, set ur ram multi to give u 1600 or close to mhz,set your qpi to 1.25000,set cpu voltage to normal and set ram volt to 1.66 keep performance enhance on standard and keep everything else enabled and on auto

I would loosen those memory timings first thing. Try 8 8 8 24 to begin with. Everything else looks ok for now. When you crash and it BlueScreens on you, what error code does it record. You can check backlogs of this info by viewing windows problem reports and solutions, then clicking on view problem history. It will tell you the error you recieved there in the log.

      code 124 - not enough/too much qpi
      code 101- not enough vcore
      code 050- INCORRECT MEMORY TIMINGS/SETTINGS.

If you see code 50, then that should fix the problem.

I was too late to write down the error code. I couldn't find any strange codes in the event viewer. Unfortunately I can't replicate the bluescreen since I can't boot the systeem with these BIOS settings.

        During booting:

The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking or changes of voltages.
Last settings in BIOS setup may not coincide with current H/W states.
        Current CPU Speed: 2.66GHz
        Current BCLK: 133MHz
        Current Memory Speed: 1066MHz

        In the BIOS:

The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking or changes of voltages.
Last settings in this page may not coincide with current H/W states.

        Back to default..

MAIN thing I see is that you are starting with FAIL SAFE instead of Optimized defaults. Please load optimized defaults and start again, here is some tips on this process in this thread, be sure to read please >>

If once you do that you still are having issues I can help for sure!! Let me know if you want to keep at 133 Bclk and if so I will give you a Full set of suggested settings to work with

          *edit*

PLEASE update your BIOS with the latest BIOS >>

I know this memory can give issues with older BIOS versions, found out myself the hard way with another kit that uses similar chips >>

You will have much better luck after you are using a compatible BIOS!!

Thanks for the tips. Updated to F9E. Still get memory errors in Memtest86 with the XMP profile. Manual memory settings -> system won't boot.

Are you using Memtest86+ 2.11? Just checking.

Please give me your FULL exact settings using a template from the link in my signature, then I can advise you on how to manually set things up

Just so you know, while we wait on each other, depending on what your CPU likes, you may need up to 1.45+ QPI/Vtt to run those tight timings.

Do I have to use a software program to read my BIOS template?

No, you can just manually input it from your memory or pics you have taken. It's just easier to read and suggest back that way, as opposed to images of the BIOS

Just copy the template to a notepad file on your PC and either print it out, or fill it in from memory or go look in your BIOS for things you are not sure of.

                    Then paste back here.

Sorry about the hassles, I could just give you settings first, but I would like to see what you are using in full is why I ask you provide them first

And hey, before we get into 180 Bclk testing, have you tested each stick one by one at stock defaults? They should pass this way, if one or more does not you may need to RMA

OK, those look confusing. You said you uses those settings for a test but your image shows 888-20 timings.

Anywho... Here is setting for stock for now, these should get you going.

If you receive BSOD's this list of codes is most often what they mean
