  • Request for more lower CPU PLL selections in EX58 boards' bios

So my i7 920 like most others, has trouble with x20 multiplier just after 3.70GHz, at 4GHz its impossible to stabilize it let alone getting passed 30 seconds without a BSOD. I found that lowering CPU PLL volts down to the lowest setting in bios, 1.300v helped enormously with x20 multi, enormous as in 30 seconds then BSOD -> 10+ mins still going in Prime95, nothing else was changed in bios. Starting at around 1.500v I started noticing increase in stability and going to 1.400v and 1.300v each gave a noticeable increase, if there was 1.200v or even 1.100v that would be very helpful.

    I posted a thread about it in another forum i7 920 x20 multi favors very low CPU PLL - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

You are obviously not aware of how i7's react when x20 multi is used compared to x19/x21.. x20 is harder for most for an unknown reason. Iam searching for a way that counters that issue. 19x211 its stable 10 hours of Prime95 and 30 runs of LinX.

x20 + turbo is not x20 its x21. Try just x20 and you will see, most likely. Few do not have the issue.

Re: Request for more lower CPU PLL selections in EX58 boards' bios

The question is, are Gigabyte physically able to implement such a change.

The voltage regulator responsible for PLL may not be able to supply such a low voltage. The BIOS software can only set voltages that the actual components are able to produce. 0.1V below stock may be a reasonable ask, but any less is pushing it in terms of what the hardware can do I believe.

Only a Gigabyte tech would be able to answer 100% if voltage for the PLL can go down thatlow, and you'd have a tough job talking to one unfortunately.

Yes, assuming the hardware is capable of using lower than 1.300v I hope they add more selections in bios.
