  • What FSB should I aim for on UD3LR? Voltage?

    Hi All,

So I decided to get back into the overclocking game after a few years off. Got myself an EP45-UD3LR and some G.Skill Pi DDR2-1100. Still on air cooling for the moment (my water gear needs some TLC before going into active duty).

Just wondering what FSB I can expect to reach on this board with stock NB cooling and what voltages I will need to get there? I'm currently running 460MHz FSB on 1.20V MCH Core and 1.20V Vtt but obviously want to go a lot higher. Eventually I will water cool the NB/CPU but for now I'm just curious what speeds people are getting out of these boards on air.

Full system specs are in my sig. Any other comments are always welcome. Just remember, I only just got this system so my clocks are pretty mild so far.

Well E6600 may get 500 FSB, not sure how much past that they will go as no one has been using these CPU's for a while now so I forget what they can do.

I can say with a new CPU and a P45 board you can take a quad core past 500 FSB and the Gigabyte P45 UDx models broke FSB World records not long ago at 600+ FSB

I would expect you may be able to get 3.6 or so with that CPU, it may take some high Vcore though

Thats good news about the world records! :-)

I seem to be going OK so far, I'm stress testing 475 x 7 = 3.33GHz right now. Voltages are all pretty much stock except the CPU (1.40V). I tried for 3.6GHz using a higher multi and lower FSB but no matter what combination of voltages I set (Vcore, VTT, PLL GTL, MCH, etc) it will not run orthos for more than 10 seconds at that speed.

What do you think a safe upper limit for Vcore would be on a 65Nm C2D? I got to 1.45Vcore and 1.4VTT before I stopped. Temps were starting to get pretty high with this crappy cooler I'm using.

Looks like I'll be sticking with 7x multi and shooting for 480 - 500 FSB to get around 3.4 - 3.5GHz. Assuming its stable, that ought to keep me happy until I get a quad and sort out some water cooling.

What MCH voltages would you expect for FSB's close to 500? I'm still on 1.2V at the moment and 475FSB has been benching for about an hour so far.

3.6ghz will take you some time to get going

If temps are good I would say 1.45-1.5 would be fine and 1.45-1.5Vtt as well. Sounds like you need a better cooler first though

MCH of 1.2-1.28 should be plenty

Cool. Thanx for the tips. I'll post the results when I've done a bit more fiddling.

On a side note... Lsdmeasap, You must literally live on this board. I've only posted a couple times but I always seem to get a response from you within seconds, LOL.

          Love the nick BTW.
