greetings, i have searched on google but havent found any match to my problem.

i have 4 maxtor sata II drives in RAID 0 configuration on my system but when i do a "HD Tune" it reports of speed 120 MB/sec. shouldn't it be more than 200 at least?

    i am running windows 7.

please help. will provide any more info if you need it.

p.s. the RAID driver is for vista, couldn't find one for windows 7 yet. but when i was running vista this problem was there also, i just didnt notice it.

    thanks,

    amjad.

Did your hard drives come with force 150MB jumpers? http://www.seagate.com/images/suppor...ta_jumpers.gif

yes they did and i have taken them off. but no improvement in the HD speed.

also could it be that i have installed the wrong driver for this? when i install windows 7 or vista, during setup i have to load drivers for the RAID and it says something to do with AHCI RAID. is this correct?

      thanks.

Yes It is a AHCI/RAID driver. Did you use the Gigabyte RAID bios to set them up? What program are you using to benchtest them? Try DiskSpeed by Roadkil it works with Windows 7 64bit too. BenchmarkHQ Let me know the results.

            Re: Ga-ma790x-ds4 sata ii 3g

Disk Speed reports 207MB/sec as cached speed. does this mean that my system is running sata ii 3G?

i ask because i haven't noticed in performance gain between running non RAID 0 and RAID 0.

            please advise.

            thanks,

            amjad.

Here is a photo of my non RAID and RAID0 you can really see a difference. You want to look at the Max Read Speed.

                Re: Ga-ma790x-ds4 sata ii 3g

i get a max read speed of 127.94MB/sec. i think i need new drives, what do you think?

also in your post, your max read is 180, is that on sata II? shouldnt it be more than 250 at least?

                thanks.

im sure my ratings are low because of the HDs. they only have 2MB cache!

just bought 2 velociraptors, hopefully get them tomorrow. hope to post then.

                  Re: Ga-ma790x-ds4 sata ii 3g

Something that may have happened is when you removed the jumpers one of the outer plastic jackets came off but the actual jumper remained and is making contact still across the pins. It seems you are running at a slower than a SATA300 RAID speed. Although 127.94 seems faster than AHCI and IDE. This is puzzling to me. Something is not at full speed. The max read speed never came close to 250 on my SATA2 HDD. You can click the compare Results tab after the Roadkil's Diskspeed test, as the photo shows above. 180.36MB/sec is considered above normal. Please post your results when you get the velociraptors.
