  • P55M-UD4 + Corsair 8gb (4x2gb) bluescreen

    OS: Windows 7 64-bit
    CPU: Core i7 860
    Motherboard: Gigabyte P55M-UD4, bios F5
    RAM: Corsair CMX8GX3M4A1333C9 8gb matched set (4 sticks x 2gb)
    RAM: stock settings: 9-9-9-24-2T 1.5v 1333mhz
Video: ATI saphire radeon HD 5750 (with 9.11 drivers)
Power: Cooler Master silent pro m 700 watts

Intermittent bluescreens, sometimes when resuming from sleep, sometimes just using the pc, with various codes (0xF4, 0x7A, c0000BS, 0x00000119), "video scheduler has an unexpected error". "error caused by ntkrnlmp.exe", and others.

Weirdest: intermittent (~ once a day) loud burst of static from the audio, with a movie playing, then after stopping movie static continued for 15 more seconds.

Goal: not into overclocking, just stability.

    Things I've tried:
    1. RAM passed testing in Memtest86+
    2. Increasing voltage of RAM
    3. Installing latest bios and drivers for everything.
    4. Changing USB Suspend and PCIe link state power management to off.

Should I RMA this board + RAM? My 30 day return period is almost up.

Has anyone gotten this board + processor combo to work stably, with 4 x 2gb sticks of any brand of RAM, (and did you get any of the EIST, S1E, C3, etc. working)? Any guidance appreciated. Thanks!

whats the rams rated voltage? you should be able to run with 1T command rate ie 9-9-9-24 1T,also what qpi voltage are you using?

      Thanks Wazza,

So you are saying 1T would be more stable than the 2T that it is set at now? I'll have to try that.

Rated Voltage is 1.50v, which is what it's now set at.

Here are what the other voltages are set to:

      QPI/VH voltage is = 1.1v
      PCH Core is = 1.050v
      CPU PLL is = 1.800v
      DRAM Termination is = .750v

        Re: P55M-UD4 + Corsair 8gb (4x2gb) bluescreen

With 8GB you will need to increase some things, but first I want to say before I forget this mainly sounds like driver/GFX Card issues to me. With these cards being so new it may be some time before drivers are stable for them all. And or BIOSes are made fully compatible with these cards.

With 8GB of ram you may or may not reach specified speeds as those are specs per kit. How long did you test in memtest86+? Just wondering, 5-10 full passes is suggested

So with 8GB you may need to increase ram voltage to 1.6-1.66, PCH Voltage may need 1.15-1.25, and you may need QPI/Vtt voltage of 1.2-1.4+

1T Command rate is suggested, anything less would be treating your memory unfairly :)

You should also test performance enhance Standard and Turbo, sometimes Turbo works better with P55 compared to previous DDR2 boards.

If you still have issues please grab a template from my signature and give me your full settings so I can see if you are missing anything or something looks off.

Ram passed! Which Power Options are safe to enable?

OK, I upped the voltages as suggested, ran Memtest86 over night 8.5 hours and it passed 6 full passes with no errors.

Windows has been stable the last 2 days, but I also turned off ALL of the power-saving features in Windows to get it stable.

If we can assume from the Memtest86 that the RAM is not a problem...

Which power-saving feature(s) are the safest to turn back on?

Which causes the most stability problems? USB selective suspend?
Link state power management? Sleep mode? Processor power management?

Is there a test I can run to test Windows 7's stability?

Thanks so much for your help and suggestions.

            Re: P55M-UD4 + Corsair 8gb (4x2gb) bluescreen

If you are overclocking I suggest you leave them off (C1E and EIST)

All the rest you mention can be left at their defaults, and should not have needed changed really.

There is no Operating System test, only system stability. You can test with Orthos, OCCT, or Prime95, you can get those and many other testing tools here
