    Re: Help! configuring 998691 6GB on GA-X58A-UD7

set ram manually without xmp, select quick timings and try 6-7-6-18,set mem multiplier to give you 1600mhz and set dram voltage to your rams spec,if no luck try with 8-8-8-20 timings

      Re: Help! configuring 998691 6GB on GA-X58A-UD7

i already set ram parametrs manually at CL6 1600Mhz and while i test it with Memtest86 each stick separatelly, i get diferent results with diferent number of errors...

If y set all parametrs in auto, i get 8 8 8 20 timmings at 1000 Mhz and the system becomes stable...

Dou you think its a mobo or ram issue?
Does anyone have this RAM model working properly on a UD7?

thanks a lot for response me.

P.D. Happy new year from Spain! :D

its probably ram,you might need more qpi voltage with cas6 timings but 8-8-8-20 is ok for now

Yes but, i bought this ram kit to use it on CL6 timmings...
If i put more qpi voltage between 1.325v and 1.375v and DDRv at 1.65v the system doesnt boot and a message appears saying that bios had loaded default settings because a failure system boot after overclocking... :S its the reason i dont know where is the problem: Ram or MoBo.

            Re: Help! configuring 998691 6GB on GA-X58A-UD7

I just found this post on Google.

I have the same motherboard and RAM with the same timings as yours. When I choose to use the XMP profile, the latencies are set all wrong. Memtest shows that the memory is actually running in 6-6-5-19 when the BIOS says 6-7-6-18.

Hopefully this is something that will be fixed with a BIOS update.

                Re: Help! configuring 998691 6GB on GA-X58A-UD7

I have a UD7 board and 6GB Mushkin 998692 RAM (same RAM with different heat spreader). I am just learning about overclocking and at first would not boot the system when just plugging in aggressive sytem settings. I think you need to start out with a low overclock and work up slowly from there. Make sure you are using the latest bios. I am using the F3c beta bios without problems.

Now, I have the RAM running at 6-7-6-18 @1500Mhz with these settings:

                CPU clock ratio: 20
                Intel Turbo boost: Enabled
                CPU Multithreading: Enabled
                CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E): Disabled
CPU EIST function: Enabled - also works with Disabled
                Virtualization tech.: Disabled
                Bi-Directional PROCHOT: Enabled

                QPI Link Speed: x36
                Uncore frequency: 20
                Base Clock control: Enabled
                BCLK Frequency (Mhz): 150
                Isochronous Frequency: Enabled

                PCI Express Frequency: 100
                C.I.A.2: Disabled

                CPU Clock Drive: 800mv
                PCI Express Clock Drive: 900mv
                CPU Clock Skew: 0ps
                IOH Clock Skew: 0ps

                DRAM:
                Performance Enhance: Standard
                Extreme Memory Profile XMP: Disabled
                System Memory Multiplier: 10
                DRAM Timing Selectable: Expert

                Enter DRAM timings: 6-7-6-18
Set Command Rate for each module: 1

                Voltage:
                Load Line Calibration: Level 1
CPU Vcore: 1.275v works, but you can go higher - try anything up to 1.3v at first.
QPI/Vtt voltage: 1.2v - should work but you can go higher - if not, try up to 1.25 for this overclock.
                CPU PLL: 1.80v

                MCH/IOH:
                PCIE: Auto
                QPI PLL: 1.14v
                IOH Core: 1.10v
                ICH I/O: 1.50v
                ICH Core: 1.14v

                DRAM:
DRAM voltage: 1.62v - This or even lower should work, but if system has problems, try 1.64v or 1.66v (but not higher!!). Once system is stable, you can try to lower DRAM voltage.
                Other DRAM settings: AUTO

I have an Intel i920 D0 stepping. What do you have?

I also had some attempts where not all of the RAM timings showed up in the bios. This was corrected when I raised the DRAM voltage higher.

These settings will give you a CPU frequency of 3.150Mhz (150 Bclk x 21 multipler with Turbo on) and a RAM frequency of 1500Mhz (150 Bclk x 10 multiplier). If this works, and it should, you can adjust Bclk higher and possibly some of the voltages (CPU, QPI).

When you get to 160 Bclk, your RAM will be at 1600Mhz. I haven't reached there yet. My system was not stable when I just plugged in settings with very high voltages and 200 Blck. But it is running very stable now and when I have time, I will try to go higher.

Let us know if you are making progress.

have you tried your settings but with c1e enabled and cpu voltage on "normal" and qpi on 1.30000??? you may be able to lower qpi a little as your at 3.1ghz, if your running win7 you can disable c1e and select balanced in power saving options in win7,it does the same job as c1e in bios, only for win7 though

                    Wazza,

What will I improve if I change CPU voltage to "Normal" and qpi on 1.30v? Should I make that change only if overclocking higher than the present 3.150Mhz?

I do have Win7 and am using Balanced power setting. So, should I leave C1e off? Should I turn it on if overclocking higher?

I am very much a novice at this. I was shooting for an initial target of 3.4Mhz but have stopped at 3.15Mhz so far.

                    Thanks.

well the lower cpu volts the better as "normal" is 1.18750v but it wont use that much, and qpi 1.30000v is what i use for 3.8ghz maybe you could lower it a little but 1.3 wont hurt at 3.1ghz,no dont enable c1e if you have win7 as it might cause inteferance noise only slightly, disable it and keep on balanced setting as it will reduce clock speed at idle but give you 3.1ghz at load, when clocking higher than 3.8ghz its best to disable c1e,with a d0 chip you should be able to clock to 3.8ghz with those settings ram volt at 1.66 cpu normal and qpi 1.3

                        Wazza,

My Bios shows 1.30000v in the "Normal" column for CPU voltage. I am presently running it set at 1.28175v - CPUZ shows 1.248v. You mentioned 1.1875v as normal. I think I have read elsewhere that the i920 normal voltage is 1.2000v. Now I am not sure. Do you have any more info on this?

What is the difference between C1E/Win7-balanced and CPU EIST? Do they both reduce CPU clock speed when demand is low?

                        Thanks.

maybe your board bios is different to mine as i have ud5,but the normal cpu voltage on mine is 1.18750 try setting it to that in the bios as thats what my cpu uses, eist and c1e reduce clocks at idle saving power and heat, you can keep eist enabled but like i said the balanced option in win7 does the same job as c1e but without the motherboard squeal on some mb's so you can keep it disabled in bios, ive looked in easytune and in prime95 under full load my cpu uses 1.15200v so i would set it at 1.18750 youll find it wont use that amount under full load and thats at 3.8ghz

                            Wazza,

Well, I've reduced the CPU voltage to 1.1875v and I am very surprised to see that, so far, the system is behaving correctly. I haven't put any severe load on it yet, so no final conclusion can be reached. But, I was half-expecting it to not even boot!

I notice that with small loads like opening programs, both CoreTemp and RealTemp clearly show that the throttled down CPU spins up to a quick 3.150Mhz frequency just for a second or two at a time. These advanced power technologies are really working!

And, just as you said, CPU-Z is now reporting core voltage to be 1.152v. That is at a throttled idle, though. I haven't noticed it change under load, but it would have to, wouldn't it, as the CPU frequency adjust higher?

One thing that is a bit puzzling is that the core temps do not seem to have dropped at all with a significant reduction in CPU voltage. CPU-Z is now reporting 1.152v at rest, before it was 1.248v. But no temp drop??? Still showing between 35*C and 39*C at idle with case closed, a good cooler, and room temp about 66*F. Perhaps there is no core temp change because I made no change in QPI voltage.

Sorry to hijack this thread. I hope the original poster can benefit from this discussion and posts back with his successful results.

well maybe you need to enable c1e and then it will throttle cpu voltage but it should do that anyway in win7 balanced power option but my cpu is set to normal if its higher than that it wont throttle the cpu voltage, try with normal setting i know its 1.3 on your board but it might throttle it using alot less try it and see if it uses less
