  • Ht link confusion am2+ with am3 question? m52l-s3p

Hi my ht link is currently at 1 ghz no matter what i do. I have 2x2 gb patriot viper low latency ddr2 2.2v "I changed latency at volt correctly after bios changed to 5.5.5.12 instead of 4.4.4.12 and 1.8 volt"

But the gigabyte website says: *Note: If you install AMD AM2+ CPU on AM2 motherbord, the system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0(5200MHz) to HT1.0(2000 MT/s) spec; however, the frequency of AM2+ CPU will not be impacted. Please refer "CPU Support List" for more information.

This is my board, ive tried all the bioses. F5 currently, emailed support before i flashed F5 and they told me its fine to do that because they are both the same design.
    GA-M52L-S3P (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview

But my cpu is a phenom II 720 be 2.8 ghz. Should the ht link speed be at ht 3.0 then?

Does my bios think my cpu is a am2? Is cpu broken or what? Should i set my memory in another colored dimms or run them single channel?

Im so confused about this, dual channel gives a performance increase but the low ht link is to bottlenecking. Sometimes corruption of data and cache acting weird.

My setup is: corsair tx650w, ati xfx 5770, phenom II 720 2.8be, m52l-s3p, corsair 2+2gb, sata harddrives.

And why does gpu z tell me my pci express is x16 1.1 when the slot is 2.0 pci express x16?

What should i do? Something wrong with cpu z and gpu z reports?

My ht link settings are k8 and max x5=1ghz does not make sence if am2+ should give me ht3.0 on this board. I think the right ht would really help especially with gpu and memory. Im thinking about getting a different board instead, but then i have to buy new ram if am3. I love gigabyte so ill propably stick to it. But would be nice to spend on something else on payday. A better board is cheap but ram and more components i dont know if i afford.

"edit: no overclocking and cool quiet disabled etc also i know about cntrl+F1 Are there more hidden menus. My bios seems pretty limited, and there are never new features between upgrades. After F2 they took away the save bios to CMOS which was a great feature for backing up settings"

AM2+ or AM3? If you want AM3 to be at full speed you need DDR3. Your motherboard will downgrade the AM3 cpu HT& NB. It still should be fully functional though. When you upgrade a CPU you also need to set bios to load optimized defaults, and reinstall Windows. So you may opt for a full upgrade, (motherboard and DDR3 memory). It's nice to have all of these options.

Its am2+ socket the cpu is am3. Its not am3 cpu on am2 motherboard, so shouldnt the cpu still have ht3.0 if its am2+

No it will reduce from HT3.0 to HT 1.0. HyperTransport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
That motherboard and chipset is an AM2 socket motherboard. The Hyper transport bus is 2000MT's on that board. The cpu will be downgraded to 2000MT's. For example my Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H rev.1.1 is a AM2+. Also for reference on page 10 in my motherboard manual. "Hyper Transport Bus  5200/2000 MT/s"

        On page 10 of the GA-M52L-S3P "Hyper Transport Bus  2000 MT/s"

          Ok! Thanks.:)

Ill look into getting another motherboard. They got one "GA-MA785GMT-UD2H" here in my town pretty cheap. Its ddr3, am3 and ht3.0. Maybe i buy it this month.:) Just got so damn many bills this month. Want to get the ram at the same time.:)

Is gigabyte bios any good at disabling onboard gpu? Switched to this bios when i had issues with disable onboard gpu with my previous msi board.:)

Btw. Must say after doing some more tweaking today i have this setup running pretty smooth right now, changed ram from ganged to unganged and system got much more stable and really fast.:)

Btw you think my psu will be enough to handle everything for next upgrade? corsair tx650w?

          /Ola

Re: Ht link confusion am2+ with am3 question? m52l-s3p

Im also considering am2+ with a better chipset like you have. Is there any other benefits of going for am3 except getting ddr3 support. Sure ddr3 has faster data rate but im pretty happy with the ram i have and consider already ddr2 to be pretty good and fast right now.:)

But upgrading to get ht3.0 i think seems like a pretty good idea, i do alot of rendering and video editing beside gaming. Doing some media work with adobe software shoulnt ht3.0 speed up multitasking alot.

Is am3 really necessary or should i go for am2+ with ht 3.0? Are there any other issues or benefits in between those sockets/standards?

              /Ola
