  • GA-790XTA-UD4 rev1 with AMD X6 1090T

Hi, just bought these two together. GB website says it supports the cpu from bios version f3. Unfortunately, the board I have is f2. Is there a way to update the bios? I don't have an older/compatible cpu and it is booting funky with the x6 installed. (reboots, hangs on splash screen, occasionally I can get in the bios after resetting cmos)

I have removed all peripherals and bread boarded the system. I'm hopeful that it is this MB/CPU compatibility issue. I would like to just upgrade the bios and not go through RMAs and waiting for weeks.

Any help would be appreciated. I've built this killer system and I can't even get it to boot.

You can't flash with the updated bios using the Qflash utility? Can you press end instead of delete at first beep and get into the Qflash utility?

Yeah try, what artdrivers suggested. You dont know anyone that has an AMD cpu you can borrow? The mobo will continue to throw fits because the cpu isnt compatible with the board without that BIOS update.

No, I can't get into the qflash. Most the time it just halts at the splash screen no matter what keys I press. Sometimes it recylcles continually. If I pull the power, remove battery, jump cmos. I can get it into the bios (sometimes). But no luck with qflash. That would make it easy. I posted on another forum and the guy suggested buying a sempron for $30. I may just do that.

        Thanks,

        Dave

That sounds like a plan. Another cpu that is supported by the bios you are currently using. Then you should download and flash to the latest bios.
Just to let you know. I only see 1 Sempron supported. The Sempron 140. You may want to look at the supported cpu's on the url below. Scroll down and choose one from the list that supports the F1 BIOS. It will say F1 on the right side. GA-790XTA-UD4 (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Motherboard - CPU Support List

Yes. I had looked at that list and the 140 is the one I ordered: Newegg.com - AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 45W Single-Core Processor

New Egg is pretty quick so I hope to have it in by the end of the week. Thanks for the help/advice.
