  • GA-790xta-ud4 and ocz3g1333lvam4gk

I have a GA-790xta-ud4 board and initially installed 4 gigs of ocz3g1333lv4gk memory in it with 2 sticks.
Obviously had crashes due to incompatibility and obtained 4 gigs of ocz3g1333lvam4gk memory for am3 systems per ocz recommendation. Swapped out sticks and now computer just beeps once when turned on and then shuts off. No post at all. I pulled out cmos for 20 mins or so along with the cpu just in case something in cache doubt it but did anyway to rule out possible doubts. Put initial 2 sticks of 4 gig total ocz3g133lv4gk memory back in since computer at least went into windows, but same scenario.
Also, did update the bios before the memory swap but it was flashed successfully.
I'd appreciate any insight or assistance.

    System specs:
    Athlon II X4 635
    460watts cooler master psu
    GA-790xta-ud4
    radeon hd5670
    1 dvd drive
    2 120mm fans
    500gb barracuda 7200 hd
    then the memory

I've also tried swapping with a 650 watt psu that I have and made sure all connections were seated and took video card out and reseated. Pulled the mem sticks out and tried 1 stick in slot 4 and all the way down same result.
Tried swapping video card out with 8800gt video card. No difference.
Is the one beep I hear before the computer shuts off a beep code? If so, what does one beep mean?

Update: obtained am3 processor from a friend that has a lot of spare parts due to building computers for people a lot in the past, but unfortunately no motherboard to try and no memory since he only has ddr2- no change thus far.

        Re: GA-790xta-ud4 and ocz3g1333lvam4gk

Update: Decided to go ahead and exchange the mainboard at the store. Put system back together and the computer posts and can go into windows.

        The memory states the following:
        CL 9-9-9-20
        (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS) and 1.65 volts

This may be a stupid question, but what do these numbers correspond to in this board's bios? I'm not running that computer for now since I'm not sure if the default values somehow damaged something last time.

Nice to see you got this sorted out!

Those are the MAIN memory timings, and the memory voltage, auto may or may not (likely) set them correctly, you should set them youself

First Load Optimized Defaults in BIOS. Before you install the new memory. After you install the memory. See how it works on auto settings. Sometimes it sets the memory up correctly.
If it doesn't you may want to set the memory and timing items manually.
Here is a template with some manual settings for the OCZ 3g1333lvam4gk
OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 Gold AMD Edition Low Voltage OCZ Technology
              Code:
              CMOS Setup Utility-Copyright (C) 1984-2009 Award Software
               MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.) Load Fail-Safe Defaults
 Standard CMOS Features [COLOR=darkred]Load Optimized Defaults Press Enter Save and Exit.[/COLOR]
 Advanced BIOS Features Set Supervisor Password
 Integrated Peripherals Set User Password
 Power Management Setup Save & Exit Setup
 PC Health Status Exit Without Saving
After you change the voltage and set the DDR3 Timing Items to manual save and exit reboot go back into BIOS and then change the memory timings.
              Code:
              MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)

Let us know how that goes.
