    GA-P55-UD3 ram problem need help!

    mobo- GA-P55-UD3 rev. 1.0
    ram - g.skill ripjaw ddr3 (F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH)
    win7 64bit

    Hello, the trouble I'm having is that BIOS only recognises 2GB of ram out of the 4GB that I have installed, I checked windows and it states "4.00GB installed(2.00GB usuable)". Naturally I made sure the ram was in the right place and I also switched them around but still the same problem, so I don't think the ram is faulty. I read around the internet and heard that this might be a ram compatibility issue and that flashing the BIOS might help. I've never flashed any bios before.. but I have read the manual carefully, the BIOS I'm currently running at the moment is F3, is it ok to make the big jump all the way to f9?

    also I'm using a 2gb usb flash stick (fat32) with qflash but when I extract the 3 files into it the autoexec one disappears. I'm pretty sure its still there just invisible, is that normal?

    any help would be appreciated :)

    yes you can flash straight to f9 without issue,you only need the .fxx file or the extracted bios file itself on the usb stick but it wont hurt with all three as it will only flash what it needs,did you test each stick one at a time in each white slot one at a time? it will boot from any white slot if your ram slots/modules are working

        I just tested them,the white slot closest to the cpu (ddr3_1) doesn't work.. when i tried to start it with just 1 stick on that slot the computer restarts before the bios boots. But when I used the stick on the other white slot it booted up just fine.. so its a faulty motherboard?

          hang on a sec,when it didnt boot up in #1 slot did you swap the module with the other one and test that one in the same slot?? what happened?

            I checked both sticks on both slots and the same result in that the ddr 1 slot didn't work... but the other white slot worked with both. Faulty mother board i guess then... atleast i dont have to flash the bios.

              yes it lookslike a dead/faulty ram slot,you could try inspecting the cpu socket for any even very slightly bent cpu pins,BUT BE CAREFULL...........dont damage any pins as you check as ive seen this happen,sometimes re-clamping the cpu clamp and re-seating the heatsink,loosening the cpu heatsink a 1/4 turn on each screw if its fitted with a backplate can help fix ram/slot problems......i would try that first then re-test the slots like before,if all that fails and the same results you need to fill in a rma ticket explaining what youve tried and that you can confirm that #1 ram slot is faulty/dead and they will repair/replace the mb,it should work without bios update as one slots working but the other isnt so somethings wrong

                  good luck,where did you buy from? overclockers.uk? or ebuyer? it wont take long for rma,usually 2-3weeks to get a working board back

                      ahh ok,you should be fine,remember if its less than 7 days you can usually file for doa(dead on arrival) but i dont know whether it includes ram slot,either way you will be covered

                        Did you check for bent pins yet, this is more likely than a faulty slot, either way though you will need a new board

                          yeah it did turn out to be bent motherboard pins in the end. I'm in the process of getting a new one at the moment, hopefully no problems this time :D
