  • Any Motherboard Recommendations for i7 860 / crucial ddr3 / ATI HD4650 Video Card?

Hi! AWESOME forum I must say again!

I've read a lot, and searched this forum extensively for the best motherboard for the other hardware I have available. I wondered if there were any "latest" recommendations however from anyone?

    I have:

    i7 860
    ATI HD4650 GPU
    8gb Crucial DDR3 Ram
    Win7 (either: x86 or x64) - both are available.

I don't care about price of the Motherboard. I just want one that us as stable as possible for the other hardware i have available. I "might" want to overclock the CPU a litte, but this is not as important as stability.

If you'd kindly make your Gigabyte Motherboard recommendations, I appreciate them sincerely,

Glad you like it here, I always thought it was nice too, great people always willing to help here!

With 8GB of ram be sure you get a x64 bit OS!

How much are you looking to spend on the motherboard? P55A-UD6 would be a great choice, if you want something cheaper P55A-UD4P would be good

Awesome - whichever board you recommend (no matter the price - of the performance is there) that is the one I will get.

They both would perform very similar, but I'd get the UD6 if it were me.

Of course do look at both before you buy, cause one may have a better PCI/PCIE layout than the other depending on if that matters to you or not.

If you are planning to use only a single video card, the GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 would be a good choice.

The GA-P55A-UD6 and GA-P55A-UD4P are the most expensive and second most expensive LGA 1156 models currently on sale at Newegg.com. The main feature that you will be paying for on these models is Multi-Graphics Technology in order to use multiple video cards.

You may want to go to the Newegg.com Gigabyte motherboard web page and compare the different features of LGA 1156 motherboard models. If no matter the price, go for the GA-P55A-UD6.

I'll be using one monitor. Does that change recommendations?

Depends. I use two video cards and still only us one monitor.

If you plan on using either crossfire or SLI then you'll need to at minimum go for a P55A-UD4 as this model and up have a minimum of 8x/8x pcie, which is more than enough for two single GPU cards.

If you're planning on just using a single card then I'd recommend either a P55A-USB3 or a P55A-UD3. They've got the over clockability without all the unnecessary extra PCIE lanes etc. I'd also avoid any P/HXX-UDXP versions unless you really need Ultra TPM ( YouTube - GIGABYTE Ultra TPM - Data Security Has Never Been This Easy! ). This is the only difference on the P

I think he meant 3+ way SLI or CrossFire.

IMO a major factor of choosing a motherboard besides the needs are it's popularity in the market. The popular boards will have continous support and BIOS updates.
Another factor is user reviews. A product (not nesessarily a motherboard) have a great technival reviews, but user reviews will reveal problems that accur after a period of use.

If you have any special needs for add on cards make sure you have enough slots of the type you need, or USB 3, or SATA 6.

From how I read it, the OP assumed that when "multiple GPU's" was mentioned that it meant a multi monitor setup. Surely that's why he said "I'll be using one monitor". Just pointing out that you can have up to 4 graphics cards installed in a PC (using SLI/CFX) and still only use one monitor.

it allows you to have 3x crossfire or SLI ...... if you want to have this setup in the future.
