  • overclocked my i7 930 w/ X58A-UD3R... are my temps safe?

This is my first time overclocking and i want to make sure if these temps are safe. ive read that i7's runs more stable with odd multipliers. i didnt read about that until after i was done with a 20x multiplier. Everything seems to be runnning fine. It ran Linx (100runs/max stress) , Prime95 (24 hours), and i just did a short Intel Burn test (30 runs/max settings) with zero errors.

What i would like to know is, are my temps safe? is there anything that i can do to lower my temps?

    my setup
    HAF 932 case
    i7 930
    Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
    Corsair 1600mhz 3x2GB (9-9-9-24)

looks ok to me,80c is acceptable and its only on one core? if its stable then dont worry about odd/even multis just some cpu's like one or the other, you need to post your bios settings/voltages ect

are you using power saving? you can knock off idle temps if you enable all c-states and eist in advanced cpu features, dont enable c1e though, instead look in win7 power saving profile and use balanced it does the same job as c1e

settings look ok to me,you can try and lower dvid a little?? maybe lower ioh core to around 1.16v?

Re: overclocked my i7 930 w/ X58A-UD3R... are my temps safe?

if i "enable all c-states and eist", would it affect my overclock in anyway? i endabled those, but didnt know where win7 power savings was so i saved and exited bios, and it errored and reset everything in bios. i panicked and restarted the computer so i couldnt catch what kind of error it was.

i ended up having to re-enter the bios settings for the 4.0ghz. is there anyway for me to save the current 4.0ghz settings in bios and have it loaded up without me re-rentering each setting?

Re: overclocked my i7 930 w/ X58A-UD3R... are my temps safe?

it shouldnt affect your oc,if it fails just go back in the bios and you will see a red warning msg,you need to save and exit after that msg appears to bring back your settings again

you can save upto 8 bios profiles by pressing f11 from within the bios to save and f12 to load them

im only goin off my own settings i dont get any instablility when c-states are enabled, but youve set up your oc without them so now there enabled you may need to tweak voltages slightly, lookin at your bios id increase qpi/vtt to 1.3000v and up your dram voltage to ram spec on the module

set these to CPU Clock Drive ............................ [800mV]
PCI Express Clock Drive .................... [900mV]

again if its still not stable and you dont wanna mess tweaking go back to what you used before as your temps were ok

If clock drives are set to 700, then you should NOT set them correctly manually. 700mv clock drive means the whole BIOS is running Failsafe Default settings. This is a BAD idea. It's not just clock drives that are effected but lots of small hidden settings and latencies, the behaviour of the board and how it deals with "Auto" settings etc.

If your clock drives are at 700mv then you need to record your OC settings on a piece of paper, then go to the main menu and choose "Load Optimized Defaults", save and exit, then re enter the BIOS and set your OC settings again. You will need to also replace all current saved BIOS profiles as they will be constructed on Failsafe Defaults too.

Fail Safe settings are used automatically after a BIOS flash, which may be why they are in use.

i ran the listed setup for about a week. how bad is it if i was in failsafe mode.

so just to confirm.. i am suppose to set "load optimized defaults"... manually enter my oveclock settings and then change the "cpu clock speed to 800" and "pcie clock speed to 900?"

When you load optimized defaults, those settings will be 800/900, so there is no need to set them manually. They only default to 700/700 when fail safe settings are loaded.

You will be fine, it's just not good for stability is all.

                        1. Load optimized
                        2. Save/apply/reboot F10 (Reboot back to BIOS)
                        3. Set all SATA/Disk settings you need to, then adjust anything else you need.

Very important to reboot right back to the BIOS, especially if you are using RAID, because you must set the SATA/Disk settings back to RAID otherwise you will corrupt your array.

If you are not using RAID and skip that step or windows accidentally loads you will be OK, it will just fail to boot to windows until you correct the settings is all.

Thanks for this info. I had no idea about this. I THOUGHT I had gone to optimized defaults the last time I flashed but I had the same "fail safe" readings. I didn't have any system issues though. Sorted now though. Thanks again.

Always "Load Optimized Defaults"... When ever you clear CMOS or you update the bios always Load optimized defaults press f10 renter bios set your voltages for ram / O.C settings and Raid/AHCI mode press F10

Good to hear everything is good.
