  • GA-X58A-UD3R rev.2 + 6GB(3x2GB) Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D RAM not compatible?

Hi, i was trying to build a new PC and now i am having problems with my memory...

    Ive got

    Intel I7 950
    GA-X58A-UD3R rev.2
    6GB Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D

At first my system was running fine except that only 4GB of 6GB memory showed up in bios but it booted up normally. I thought a bios update could fix the problem and i flashed BIOS FC...
If i boot up my pc now with all 3 memory modules i get the message "Recovering lost DRAM size" and then my comp restarts.
With the older bios it booted up just fine and if i put in only 2 memory my PC also boots just fine.

I am wondering now if this is an incompatibility problem or if i just got wrong bios settings...
Also tried to switch the memory modules, they all work fine.

Sorry for my bad english ,) i hope anyone can help me here

You need to set your ram voltage manually, your uncore and memory multiplier, and then find the proper QPI/Vtt your CPU needs.

Please give us your full current settings in a template from my signature, then we can advise back.

This can also be caused by bent CPU socket pins, so if we can't get things going with adjusted settings you will need to take some pictures of your CPU socket for us.

The older BIOS worked fine for you because it booted through to windows with missing memory and you didn't know it, the newer BIOSes try to correct this.

So when you have missing memory you will always notice due to the recovering Dram size message.

test each module one at a time in the first white ram socket from cpu, then move on and do same test with the other two ram slots,it will boot into windows with only one stick in any white slot if alls well

if it doesnt boot from a white slot with all of the three ram dims then the slot is faulty or you have abent cpu socket pin,

if it boots up with all but one ram dim then you have a dead or faulty ram module and will need to rma the whole set of ram

i fixed a motherboard that had just one slightly bent cpu pin that was doing the exact same thing as your seeing,i carefully flicked it back into place and it worked fine after, but try the test first just to see if you have a faulty ram stick

I also tried out to boot the system with only 1 Ram in the last white slot (Slot5) and my system doesnt boot at all then. If i put 1 RAM in the last slot and 1 RAM in the white slot 3, my PC starts but i get the "recovering lost dram size" message and the pc restarts... This also happens with all 3 RAM modules installed.
In bios the last ram slot doesnt seem to work, because it only shows me the installed ram in the other slots.
If i put 1 RAM in the last slot and get into bios, In Bios Channel C Advanced Timing Control it only has TRC 8, all the other values show a - in Auto...

Is the last Slot broken now or is it possible that i just have the wrong bios setting?
Even only 1 module installed in the last slot my PC doesnt boot, but in the manual it says when only nstalling 1 RAM, it has to be slot 1 or 3, slot 5 isnt listed when installing 1 or 2 RAM modules...

I hope you can help me, thanks

when you tested the last white slot, did you test all three sticks in that slot? what happened? still could be bios though or a bent cpu socket pin,

if rams rated at 1.5v set dram voltage to that or 1.66v if its rated at 1.65v
          set qpi/vtt to 1.315v too

Before we advise any settings, can you test or clarify something for us.

So the system will boot with a single modules in the first two white slots, but not the last white one correct? If this is true, please test that last slot again once with each module to be sure none of them work in it.

If this is all true, then it is most likely that you have bent CPU socket pins, not a bad/faulty slot.

To be sure you will need to CAREFULLY remove the CPU and take some macro images of the CPU Socket for us, in a well lit room with no flash.

Thank you for the fast anwer!

I have tested the last white Slot with each module now and my system does not boot, i only get a black Screen...

So now its most likely that some CPU Pins are bent? I just hope that the Slot isnt broken...
I have to completely take out my motherboard to remove the CPU cooler -.-

Cant be bios settings that the last slot doesnt work huh?

you could try setting dram voltage and qpi/vtt voltage above, before you pull the mb out,if no luck then you need to inspect(carefully) the cpu socket and take some photos of the whole socket and post here

if rams rated at 1.5v set dram voltage to that or 1.66v if its rated at 1.65v
                set qpi/vtt to 1.315v

It should work with auto settings (As shown above), or manual ones even, with a single stick in any slot.

So, it's very likely that you do have bent socket pins. You could try the above mentioned voltage changes, but for one stick it shouldn't be needed and it should boot OK as it does with a single module in the other two white slots.
