  • EP45-DS3 with E7300 reboot loops every start?

Gave my son my E8500 and X48. He gave me his old one. Soon as I checked it out I realised it had a problem he hadn't mentioned.

Even on defaults it loops awhile, then starts. If I go to bios it says recovered from overclocking but there isn't any.

Thought I'd "fixed" it yesterday by defaulting everything, but on cold boot today, same thing.

It has 4GB of Corsair Dominator, and a Galaxy 9800 GTX+.

I updated the bios to F9 in the hope that might help, loaded optimised defaults, and still does it. Once it has booted it seems fine, but it shouldn't do it.

    Any suggestions or magic bullets?

First I'd test each stick of memory one by one to rule out a faulty module, then go from there.

The ram passes memtest 86+. Just to be sure I tried and tested a different pair of sticks. Same results. Boot loop for a few false starts, then boots.

Changed bios battery and moved graphics card to X8 pcie slot in the process of getting at bios battery. No boot loop. Shift graphics card back. Not sure here whether it booted straight away again. Think so. Then left it off for half hour. Start again. Continuous boot loop, no start at all. Shifted graphics card back to x8 pcie, booted without loop. I have just turned it off again to cool off to see if a cold start gives the same problem.

Left it overnight. Tried to start, continuous beeps. Take out a stick of ram. Fan starts and stops several times before boot. I get the feeling any hardware change would get it to boot. Basically, seems to be a cold start problem.

Maybe it's the PSU, this should be (fairly) easy to test.

Haven't got a spare one in the office atm. It was working perfectly in x48 (My son got me to swap his cable managed Silent Pro PSU into X48 and put the Antec 550W into the P45) I'd have to swap it to check that wouldn't I?

              You replaced the board only?
Did it have the same behavior when he had it?

We are thinking alike. I have sent him an email this morning asking him that. Changed PSU only. Swapped computers. He got my old one, and I got his even older one.

Could also be some compatibility with the PSU too, might want to trade him PSU's to verify.

That may well be it. I rang him today and he said he never ever had any beeping like that, just occasionally a boot loop "and all you had to do was swap ram slots". That was his cure, while I've been taking a stick out, and then once it has booted, turning off and replacing it. He said that didn't happen very often. Not much hope of him bringing the PSU back for experiments. I'll get a generic one tomorrow, considering I'll be passing his old PC on once it's working.
                    Get paid tomorrow.

Let us know how it turns out with another PSU.

Generic one may not be the way to go, but if that's all you plan to buy since you are passing this one along it maybe fine if you can find one that works :)

Re: EP45-DS3 with E7300 reboot loops every start?

I had an Antec neopower 650 with a problem from birth. If you plugged in (cable managed psu) a 6 pin pcie cable then that worked, but not HDD power cables. I never did get around to returning it. Used a second jumpered power supply for hd-drive power.

Changed cases in case there was a short somewhere.

Meanwhile a "friend" told me I'd obviously blown a capacitor when changing the psu's over through not wearing a wristband, tut, tut.

Thank the power of Murphy's law though, after my effort, it BOOTED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM.

(32C in my office. Don't go outside - it's a scorcher!) Otherwise very happy to find it will be worth buying a new PSU.

Hi,i just have to tell you, that i have same problem sometimes.I have EP43T-USB3 with Q9550 and reboot loops appears just once a day/week.Only way to boot without waiting for few loops is to shut it down, wait until all fans and discs stops and than start.Than it works for me.Maybe it would help ya,maybe not.Loops are even at optimalized BIOS settings, not just OC one. If so what was the problem, PSU or not?

I think so, even if I did change cases. My reason for thinking that is that voltages as read by hardware monitor are much closer to the nominal volts. So far no more continuous beeps or boot loops. Fingers crossed.
