  • boot up issue with GA-P55-USB3

    Hello,

I am in desperete need of your help. I've put together a new PC and run into two issues which i think can be related to the GA-P55-USB3 (rev2) im using.

    My first issue:
When i push my power on button on the chassi, the system starts but only for 1 second or so, then it shuts off by itself, only to reboot again after 2 seconds (without me pushing any button).

After the self-reboot or what to call it, the computer starts like normal.

    My second issue:
Once the computer starts and the gigabyte logo screen shows, im getting the following BIOS error:

    Warning: MAIN BIOS CHECKSUM ERROR!

Retrieving recovery source from HPA... HPA BIOS not available!!

Retrieving recovery source from Backup BIOS... Done!
    Writing BIOS Image.....

did it let you update the bios through q-flash? seemslike a bios or bios chip issue

Yes I updated bios via Q-flash. But I had to reset CMOS after doing, else it wouldnt start if I remember correct. Eitherway it says F9 in BIOS.

try flashing again but makesure you clear dmi pool data before flashing, you will see a tiny box that either has to be ticked or un-ticked cant remeber but you want to have it so that it clears dmi pool data then go ahead and flash the bios

Re: boot up issue with GA-P55-USB3

Does it do the BIOS error issue with no drives connect (HDD or CD/DVD)?

May be issues with the memory, a few similar kits are having problems as noted here

Can you borrow another DDR3 stick from somewhere to see if this is the problem?

Re: boot up issue with GA-P55-USB3

Yeah the BIOS error comes up even with the dvd and hdd's unplugged.

I'm gonna see if I can tryout my friends memory. If that fails I will return the mobo for a new one.

Re: boot up issue with GA-P55-USB3

you could have a faulty main bios chip hence it keeps backing up from the back up bios chip?idk if different memory doesnt fix it then yh i would rma it

None of my friends had any ddr3 memory so I wont be able to test it. Gonna RMA the mobo.

Re: boot up issue with GA-P55-USB3

The thing I did not see memtion was the correct way to flash being mentioned. Try this. Might sound strange but if you only tried with q-flash might try with @bios.

Such as while flashing bios in q-flash or @bios have cleared DMI pool for flashing.
Have entered bios and loaded optimized defaults pressed F10 and saved.
Reboot back into bios and set Hdd's and memory settings, pressed F10 and saved
renter bios set hdd boot order press f10 saved.

Let windows boot. Once booted reboot at Start up Press ALT+F12 at startup this will copy main bios to back up bios.

Have 2 different bios on main and back have reported some stability problems.

Try these procedures and see if that helps.
