I have a bog standard coolermaster exhuast fan connected to the sys_2 header on my ud3r board. The fan is rated at 1220 RPM Scan.co.uk: S12-EB - 120mm Coolermaster Silent Internal Case Fan with Blue LED Quiet 22db

But even when stressing the cpu and getting 85+ temps the fan never gets above 1000 RPM ( actually it never makes 1000 RPM). It does fluctuate so there is something going on but anyone know why it is not going higher? I have tried all combinations of BIOS fan settings

SYS_FAN2 header's speed is controlled by System temperature sensor but you can probably also control it with Speedfan. That works on both my EP-45 boards and should work also on EX-58 board since both use same ITE SuperIO chip.

Re: x58a-ud3r rev1 Case Fan Slow

speed fan does not seem to have any effect on either the cpu fans ( noctua) or the case fan. Moving it to a different header will be an issue as the lead just barely reaches the sys_2 header and the others are far away, but i will have a go and reloacte the fan for test purposes

Re: x58a-ud3r rev1 Case Fan Slow

The Sys_Fan2 header typically provides ~ 5.0 volts, not 12 volts.
Even when I disabled PWM in my bios, my 1200 or 1600 rpm fans typically ran at ~ 50% of rated rpm.
Fan Y-connector or extension cables can be had for $2 - $4 on my side of the pond.

The attached image shows a cable that can be used as a fan extension cable or to power two fans from one fan header.

Re: x58a-ud3r rev1 Case Fan Slow

Thanks for the info, i did manage to adjust the sysfan2 in speedfan config to on/off which makes it run at full speed, it is not that noisy but it does mean having to autorun speedfan to get it to work on a fresh boot

I then bought a coolermaster 2000 RPM sickleflow and am using that as the exhaust fan this is on a different header and runs native at 1962 RPM and again is not too loud, though my machine was whisper quite before ( cooler is Noctua d-14) i can now hear the exhaust but i do not mind it, it is not screaming

I have used the old fan as a front intake on sys2 leaving it as was i.e around 850 RPM. I also have 2 large side intake fans

With this new setup i have seen my TMPIN2 drop by 8-10 C and my TMPIN1 is also a lot lower. I think TMPIN2 is a northbridge sensor and it was maxing at 60 C which seemed to cause lag on my machine so i am more than happy with the temp drops. And of course my CPU has benefited as well

              this is what i have,

Fan Speed Controller 3.5" Bay Blue LED on eBay (end time 19-Dec-10 15:03:38 GMT)

its cheap and works great, ive got two scythe ultra kaze fans that run at 1900rpm so i slow them down a little with that controller so they arnt so loud
