  • GA-X58A-UD3R Northbridge cooling

My Northbridge appears to be running rather toasty, over 60C most of the time. Part of the problem may be that my Noctua NH-U12P SE2 fan is a cross-flow setup (currently aimed at the rear case fan) and as such there's not really any air blowing directly on the blue heat-sinks arrayed around the CPU socket.

My question is, does anyone make a fan specifically for this application? My case doesn't really have a provision for a side fan that would get air anywhere close to the NB. There's a NB-specific fan header, oddly enough.

I'm thinking of making some ducts out of postboard and mounting a fan somewhere inside the case to get airflow directly on the blue heat-sinks.

I'd appreciate thoughts and experiences on this.

yes. i had the same isseu exept i hjave really good airlflow in my case. so i took off the blue gigabyte pos metel. whoiped off the nasty glue that they use. and i installed 90mm fan direct bloing on it from the outside. it is mounted on my corsair memory cooler. i will get some pics up shortly. but if u have a memcooler its easyt to mount a fan on the side of it.. blowin on the northbridge. now i idle at 38c and load at 45c before i was idlint at 45c and loading at 55c!

what are you clocked at? and how much ram installed? mine is roughly 47-55c idle load, they are designed to run hot anyway

If you have a old fan laying around just have it sit on top of your gpu blowing on the NB heatsink. I used a 80cc fan and mine idles 43c (109f)

          Re: GA-X58A-UD3R Northbridge cooling

I added a northbridge cooler over the cmas.
          Its the xigmatek porter.
note this is on a p45 board but there are web links with it on x58.
It has provision for mounting an 80mm fan on it ,but for me because its so close to the cpu cooler ,I had to mount the fan on the slot side of the nb cooler.
On x58 there may not even be room for a fan, then again with my p45 board I couldnt add a sthbridge cooler as the gx card covers it.
With the fan temps have dropped from 40-45C+ to 30-35C approxClick image for larger version
