Go into the Advanced BIOS page and set Init Display First to PCIE.

Are you using the latest BIOS?

How are you checking what graphics is being used?

Use GPU-z if you are not already, it will tell you what is in use

Re: GA-H55M-S2 Not Detecting My Graphics Card

No, it should be automatically disabled when a working graphics card is installed into the system.

I don't even think you can choose onboard in Init First, if there is a graphics card installed. Not sure on that, but I do believe you can't.

Are you sure the graphic card works?

Re: GA-H55M-S2 Not Detecting My Graphics Card

              Hi guys,

I found this post whilst searching for a solution to the same problem - what a nightmare.

The irony is I'm a computer techie, and I'm still completely stumped by this one - let me run through what has been done up to now:

              Specifications:

              Intel i3 540
Gigabyte H55M-S2 - updated to latest BIOS revision
              2x2GB Cosair XMS3 DDR3 1600MHz RAM
              Nvidia G210
              450W PSU

I'll omit the other stuff like drives as they have been removed anyway.

              Procedure:

              1) Test graphics card on another system. Graphics card confirmed working.
              2) Test different video outputs on card. All working, just not on the problem system.
              3) Test different graphics card (GTX 295). Problem still occurs.
              4) Check BIOS settings allow discrete graphics card to function. Confirmed correct.
              5) Reseated graphics card. Problem still occurs.
              6) Reseated RAM. Problem still occurs.
              7) Reseated CPU. Problem still occurs.
              8) Tested RAM for errors. None found.
              9) Tried individual sticks of RAM. Problem still occurs.
              10) Replaced PSU with 650W model. Problem still occurs.
              11) Replaced motherboard with same model. Problem still occurs.
              12) Replaced CPU with Intel i3 550. Problem still occurs.
              13) Banged head on the table. Problem still bloody occurs...

As you can see the tests above are quite extensive. Have tried contacting Gigabyte to no avail; have also tried posting on their forums but nobody has an answer.

You can probably appriciate the frustration I am feeling at the moment - the only other thing to do is try a different motherboard altogether but I still want to know why this isn't working in the first place.

Just a bit of extra information - this 210 GPU doesn't require any additional power, it grabs it's power from the PCI Express x16 lane; which it definately is doing because the heatsink fan spins up no problem. It just doesn't get detected by the motherboard.

Any help would be greatly appriciated!!!

Re: GA-H55M-S2 Not Detecting My Graphics Card

I am having the same problem. I'm putting together a system for someone using:

                  Nvidia 8400 GS by Sparkle
                  Gigabyte G41M-ES2L

I would say it was the card (since the onboard works), except I KNOW the monitor is picking up a signal from the way the monitor behaves; the No Signal warning goes away at the appropriate time, but the monitor enters power saving mode, rather than displaying the POST, which happens (single beep). Also, hooking up the onboard with the card plugged in gives me no display, which says to me the mobo is initializing PEG, which it should be. To achieve display, I have to extract the card and use onboard. Both ports on the card act the same (it has female DVI and VGA).

Any thoughts would be fantastic. You can take a look at HCS and assume I've gone through similar steps (though not to that length/expense). i.e. The card works in another machine, switched PSUs (though this card doesn't require additional power).

When trying the card in another machine and it works, the Nvidia BIOS (??) for the card pops up first, then moves to the system BIOS. Perhaps this has something to do with it.

Re: GA-H55M-S2 Not Detecting My Graphics Card

                    Solved?

I hooked up the computer to a different display. I was using an old CRT, switched to my 24" widescreen and it works like a charm. 2 old CRTs and an old flatscreen ("old" = more than 5 years, CRTs 10+) do not work, but my new one does. Frequency possibly?

I never got this resolved in the end - I had to switch out for an ASUS board which worked perfectly. By the looks of things there are problems with the Gigabyte board, although I'm glad you managed to get it working in some way.

From the main bios screen, did you press Ctrl+F1 to see if any hidden bios options would appear in one of the bios sub menus?

I tried every single diagnostic method available. Even Gigabyte, who I RMA'd the first motherboard to, couldn't explain why this happened. Bizzare
