ga-x58a-ud7 + R6950 Twin Frozr II CrossFire

Hi,

I currently own the ga-x58a-ud7 mothboard, but want to know if I purchase 2x MSI R6950 Twin Frozr II graphics cards if they will fit in this board using the 2 x16 PCIE slots. The cards look very large, and i'm afraid to drop 600 dollars on a pair to find I'm stuck placing one of them in the x8 PCIE slot. Does anyone know if they fit nicely, or run this setup?

Are they dual slot cards? If so they will fit, if they are triple slots card then they will only fit if you use a x16 and x8 slot spacing them out.

No worries if you had to though, cards don't even max out PCIE 2.0 x8 bandwidth anyway so it would be fine and them same as having them both on x16 slots.

Looks like a dual slot card to me after looking, same as these that I use without issue (and they fit in x16/x16)

What case do you have? Have you measured inside just to makesure? It should tell you how long the card is on the spec sheet

Thanks, I didn't even notice the 2 metal prongs showing that it takes up 2 card slots vs 3 until I read your post. These 6950 cards are pretty nice for the price, and what i've read is crossfire is scaling pretty well these days. Time for a 27 inch monitor, and i'm ording these cards today. Ya, it's dual slot so you should be fine. It will be a tight fit though, but I can run two dual slot cards in the x16 slots so you'll be ok

Ive read you can flash those cards with a 6970 bios

Ive read you can flash those cards with a 6970 bios

I read this too, but somewhere I read that you can only flash reference boards, and the MSI Frozr ones I read are not considered reference. But who knows, I believe they are dual bios, so they say if the flash doesn't work out, you can flick switch them back to the original bios.
