Re: Gigabyte G1 Killer Motherboard question

There are only limited choices for 1366 cpus. i7-920-i7-960 are all 4c2t cpus only difference is cpu multi. 920 starts at 20x and 960 is at 24x. i7-970 is a 6c2t cpu with locked cpu multi. 980x-990x are 6c2t cpus with unlocked cpu multis.

            920-960 price 280-500$, 970=$500, 980x-990x=999.99$

Re: Gigabyte G1 Killer Motherboard question

Gaming is the main idea behind the new system I am making.

However, I really wanted to try out the Intel i7 2600k processor, which as already stated is not compatible with the G1 Killer M-Board.

I haven't purchased anything yet, although I am close to doing so once I have the motherboard/processor issue sorted out.

Re: Gigabyte G1 Killer Motherboard question

wait for the new z68 motherboards to be release... they were just found in japan or china i think. so it should only be another mother or 2 maybe if you can hold off.

That is if you really want a 2600k cpu. Socket 2011 should be comeing around soon. I think Q3 or Q4 of 2011.

                  edit here pick of z68

Re: Gigabyte G1 Killer Motherboard question

As far as it comes to gaming both i5-2500K and i7-2600K will beat i7-990X at stock frequency or OCed, for much less money.
Core i7-990X Extreme Edition vs. Core i7-2600K - X-bit labs
If you are not going to SLI/Cross fire more than 2 cards or not going to at all you will probably good enough with P67A-UD4-B3.
In case the upcoming AMD proves to be even bettwer you would be able to buy AMD board and CPU with the money you save and still save compared to X58 system.

Re: Gigabyte G1 Killer Motherboard question

                      Why wait for Z68?
I cant't see the reason to release of UD7 Z68 first, other than those who buy them has the money to pay for them, and will pay for them.
As far as I understand the major difference between P67 and Z68 is the integration of built-in graphics, and which of the users of UD7 is going to use it? Perhaps they need to sell it to them fast before socket 2011 comes out and they "have to" upgrade again?
                      Makes no sense to me.

                        Right!

No need for anyone to wait for Z68, especially a gamer, because they wont be using the onboard graphics anyway (Which actually appear to not even be available on the Z68 UD7 anyhow)

Unless they must have SSD caching, maybe.

IMO the G1 Series is not worth the money being charged. Personally i think the ONLY good thing about the G1 boards is the OBS. The board lacks so many features for the money being charged. Dumped mine and purchased an Asus R3E.BE which beats the Assassin hands down. Gigabyte need to re-think there pricing structure with these boards.
