  • EX58 red LED of doom.

Hope I can find the answer to a possibly very expensive question.

I accidentally shorted my Odin GT (800W). I shorted the 5V and 12V. The system had been running for 3+ years. Stupid mistake I know. Now the system won't boot...at all. I've changed the PSU but there's no change. The red LED is the CPU temp L2 one. I've been through all the troubleshooting I've been able to search for. The only thing I haven't done is try another mobo or try my CPU (i7 965) in another system.

What I want to find out is whether the CPU is fried or the mobo? When I turn on the PSU all the fans come on for a second and then go off and stay off. Mobo is currently out of case and on the bench. IF I remove the CPU and start the system, same symptoms. How can I determine whether it's the MB or CPU.

    Cheers.

Tried leaving mb battery out overnight? If it does same thing with CPU uninstalled then lookslike mb problem as mb would light up and fans run with no CPU,but try mb battery first

Thanks Wazza. I've tried leaving the battery out for 10 minutes, a few hours, overnight and completely. The RLOD still persists.

I would rma mb first, like I said it would light up fans spinning with no CPU or 4/8 pin CPU plug unplugged, just don't mention what you did in rma ticket, just say it died,if no fault found though they may charge you but I can't think what else it could be,
