  • blank screen after assembling a pc

    hello,

    i did my first setup, and I have used a GA-880GM-UD2H with a X4 955 and 1600mhz corsair ram.

But after assembling all the parts together i have got a blank screen :/ After reading the specification on the gigabyte website i found out that the motherboard is not supporting the 1600MHz Ram is that an issue ?

Also i have got XFX 5870 graphic card but the card is slightly blocking most of the SATA ports and i only have an access to one but I have to move the card a little bit to the right.

I have tried many many options with one ram stick and reseating the CPU, and still i have got a blank screen.

    thanks for help anyway :)

The screen is black but the system seems to work?
Which port have you connected the monitor to, the built in or the one on the card?
The memory does not run at 1600 yet, you will have to set it manually to run at 1600.

yes all the fans are working correctly, i did try to plug to the onboard graphics and the 5870 still i have blank screen.

So the ram is still going to work even if the motherboard doesnt support those speeds ?

Try without the graphics card installed.
        Which revision is the board?

You could try clearing cmos by removing mb battery for 30mins,are you using the two 6pin connectors from psu for your 5870? Your ram will run at stock speed, all you have to do is raise memory multiplier so it runs at 1600mhz,manufacturers only quote stock ram speeds

i dont have those parts back yet from the RMA, but from there i have got told that all of my parts are working correctly but they weren't when I assembled them.

What parts did you return? If they tested with a different psu then it could be that? Or memory?

Re: blank screen after assembling a pc

I would say to re read your manuals for the building process "Check and double check your work" Examine all yoru BIOS settings especially the one that deals with selecting your graphics option onboard or an installed graphics card. If your BIOS is set to onboard graphics and you connect to the add in card there will be trouble, I think.

I did return the motherboard, RAM, and CPU - as what i have got told they have tested all those parts together, so they had to use different PSU than i have.

So before i send out those parts i have assembled them together and I did get a blank screen

Re: blank screen after assembling a pc

If you can first I would test your 5870 in another pc just to make sure its not faulty, then I would test with another psu,but if like you say you had blank screen even with onboard graphics then it only leaves the psu as possible fault/incompatibility

Did you remove mb battery for 30mins then try?

My PSU is Corsair HX650, so the PSU could be incompatible ? I did plug the psu to my PC that Iam running right now and everything seems to be OK.

Be SURE you are connecting the correct power cables to the correct devices, you can't use a PSU 8 pin cable meant for the motherboard in a video card and the same applies the other way around.

Sounds like you are ok, just commenting on that since you mentioned 4 pin motherboard power connector. I think you meant on another PSU, but just commented all of the above to be sure as your HX650 has an 8 pin for the motherboard.

Yes, as mentioned above you can test with a 4 pin power supply, it may or may not work though based on compatibility and or voltages, but it would be ok to test with as long as that PSU is in good working order. I've ran boards from time to time with 4 pin CPU cables, that were meant to take 8 pin, so you'll be ok for a quick test anyway.
