  • GA-EX58-UD3R won't POST

I've got an EX58-UD3R which I'm trying to troubleshoot.

It's not posting, but instead turning on for a few seconds then turning off, repeating indefinitely. No beep is heard from the speaker.

I cannot isolate the problem and was hoping someome can advise me on what it might be.

    Here's some interesting points:
    • This is a bare bones test setup. Single stick of RAM, no graphics card, no peripherals.
    • When the PSU is "hot-wired" on (by shorting the green ATX connector), the system remains on, but still no beep or post.
    • There is NO CHANGE when the stick of RAM is swapped to different sockets or even removed.
    • There is NO CHANGE when the CPU is removed from it's socket. (This personally interests me)
    • When the 8 pin CPU 12V connector is removed, it only attempts to turn on once.
    • CMOS has been reset by removing the battery.
    • CPU is compatible as the system USED to work.
    • Although the RAM I'm using to test was not from the original system. I would expect that when it's removed that the motherboard should at least POST.
    • Different PSU's have been used to test
I'm stumped and thinking of RMAing it, but thought I should try here first.

    Re: GA-EX58-UD3R won't POST

You need the 8pin psu plug connected for the CPU to run,try removing mb battery and leave out overnight and then try,if still the same carefully inspect CPU socket for any bent pins and post some pics of it if you can,if any are bent even slightly it will cause problems

      Re: GA-EX58-UD3R won't POST

I've attempted to reset the BIOS by removing the battery already (as in my first post), and the socket looks top notch! :)

      Any other ideas/tests?

        Re: GA-EX58-UD3R won't POST

Sometimes it takes 30mins or overnight to fully clear cmos,I would try overnight, would be good if you can post pics of the socket so we can all have a look, lots if users have said its fine only to find out they have bent pins

What make/model ram did you test with? Was it 1.5v or 1.65v rated?

          Re: GA-EX58-UD3R won't POST

I'll leave it out overnight and see what happens.

As far as RAM is concerned, I'm currently testing with a Kingston KHX1600C9D3B1K2/4GX 1.65v single stick.
This is not the original RAM from the system (and may not be in the compatibility list for the motherboard), but even if I remove the RAM entirely (which I am doing every test cycle) the board should still POST.

I can't really see any bent pins from that pic, from the little plastic lug in the middle bottom of the socket, six pins to the right and three pins up looks out of shape? But could be the pic

              Re: GA-EX58-UD3R won't POST

I rechecked the pins around that area carefully and they look fine.
Put the CMOS battery back in and it's back to doing the power loop :(

Is there a next step, or is it just an RMA situation?

Don't you have a graphics card installed? I don't think it will post without one as it will check for gpu and fail/reboot ect if gpu isn't found

I originally thought that it should at least come up with a POST error beep code, but someone else mentioned this soI started testing with a graphics card installed. Good point though.

I had this same problem on a p67a-ud3. I decided to RMA the board and get a b3 steeping one and everything is working with the new board.
