  • gigabyte windforce 6850 oc vga-idle fan speed seems too high?

hi there, great forum and thanx for opportunity to ask for information,my question today is,i have a gigabyte 6850 oc vga that is sitting on 46% fan speed @ idle-33c, it is running fine and is a great card, but is this idle fan speed to high? its working fine and playing games very well, its not getting that hot or anything, this is the fan speed whilst not under load of course,a constant 46%,,,is that too high?

i cant seem to find anywhere that shows what the normal fan speed at idle should be,any help is great or advice, thank you for your time, regs david.

    my system is,asus p8z68 m pro,2x4 gskill rjaws 1600,antec 650w bronze 80,giga 6850 oc,samsung dvd drive,matx case.

By default the fans speed works at auto. As temp goes up fan speed will go up. At idle if you want the fan speed to come down you have to either use MSI Afterburner or Gigabytes utility to adjust fan speed to a slower speed. (Note dropping fans speed will allow temps to raise) Or Drop the temp in your room.

I can not say for sure that 46% is to high for the card at 33c by default. If you dont like the default setting you have to compromise which is better warmer temp vs louder fan.

Re: gigabyte windforce 6850 oc vga-idle fan speed seems too high?

,ive tried a few of those programs like trixx and afterburner etc,but its not a perfect solution in my humble opinion, you are right in that if i downgrade the fan% it does get a few c warmer, perhaps the twin fans may give inaccurate % reads anyway,i mean it only shows 1 rpm but 2 are rotating?just a thought, all in all,its a great card,i can almost play modern titles at full settings which is impressive in my op,i only paid 164$-au new,

i suppose theres nothing really to worry about if its not getting hot and seems to run fine etc,its a new build so it plagued my mind a bit as you can imagine, now that i have a bit more perspective on the matter, ill leave it and just enjoy using the card why not?

thanx for taking the time to respond, regs frm me.
