GA-G41MT-USB3 and 1333 MHz memory

  • GA-G41MT-USB3 and 1333 MHz memory

    I have a GA-G41MT-USB3 motherboard (FSB 333 MHz) that takes 1333 MHz memory when overclocked.

    BIOS Setup:
    -------------------------------------------
    (G)MCH Frequency Latch is set to [AUTO] which is the default

    System Memory multiplier (SPD) can be set to one of: AUTO, 2.40B, 3.20B, 4.00C, 3.00A, or 4.00A

    Item help displays the following:

    [AUTO] set memory frequency by DRAM SPD data

    X.XXA => FSB 266 MHz
    X.XXB => FSB 333 MHz
    X.XXC => FSB 200 MHz

    Setting System Memory multiplier (SPD) to either 4.00A or 4.00C works fine.

    The propper value seems to be 4.00B since this is an FSB 333 MHz mothorboard, but such an option doesn't exist.

    My Question: is selecting one of 4.00A or 4.00C prefered over the other or they are equally the same.

    What processor do you have? And what is the default memory frequency?

    EDIT: Can you attach a CPU-Z text report (CPU-Z -> About tab -> Create Report (.TXT))

        Was this made with default settings?

        EDIT: Indeed there should have been a 4.00B option, it looks as the options are for DDR2 memory only.

          Both 4.00A and 4.00C work fine. I just wonder if selecting one of them is prefered over the other or they are equally the same?

            With DRAM Voltage 1.65v you can set:
            DDR-1333 timings 8-8-8-24 (4.00C, 4.00C)
            DDR-1066 timings 7-7-7-20 (3.20B)

            Try both and see what is the lowest Static tRead Value(both channels) you can set wih each multiplier, and use to see which yields the best performance.

              About a month ago I set System Memory multiplier (SPD) to 4.00A and 4.00C. I didn't make any other changes. I ran memory tests for both values and both passed. The computer has been running fine.

              I like to know if one of the two values (4.00A, 4.00C) is prefered over the other or they are equaly the same? May be I'm supposed to run MaxxMEM2_preview for both values and use the value that gives a better performance.

              Being a non-overclocker, trying to get the best performance by changing latencies and voltage is beyond me. BUT if setting System Memory multiplier (SPD) by it self to 4.00A or 4.00C is wrong, I like to know.

                Yesm sorry for the typo, I meant try each of the options and see which is best of them all.
                Note the Static tRead instructions. Static tRad Value(a.k.a tRD, Performance Level in Mem Set) has great impact on memory performance.
                4.00A was made for 266MHz FSB, 4.00C was made for 200MHz, but there's no way to know which is better until you try. There's no right or wrong, choose which works best, have best performance, but of course, stable.

                  MaxxMEM2_preview performance test results for 4.00A and 4.00C are close but 4.00A repeatedly gave a little better latency value.

                  Since I'm a non-overclocker and Static tRad Value is under "Advanced Timing Controls", I will keep it set to AUTO for now.
