Gigabyte GA-890FXA- UD5: malfunction of the mouse

    Configuration: MB: GA-890FXA-UD5 rev 2.1 BIOS: Award v.600PG F3
    Case: Coolermaster CM 690II advanced
    PSU: Antec True Power 650W
    RAM: 16GB (Kingston 8GB DD3KINKVR1333D3N9K8G)
Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black edition
    Grafikkart: MSI R5770 Hawk
Storage:- SSD OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G on SATA 0/5
    • WD2001FASS 2,000GB connected on SATA 1/5
    • WD20EARS 2,000GB connected on SATA 2/5
    • Samsung DVD Writer SATA SH-S223 connected on SATA 4/5
    • WD 500AAKB( IDE) connected on IDE (Single)
    • ESATA and Dockingstation on the case on GSATA 6/7
Operating system: Dualboot : Win XP (x86) on hard disk WD 500 (IDE) en WIN 7 (x64) on SSD OCZ- 2Vertex.

Mouse: Logitech M-UAS 144( lasermouse USB) or Logitech MX310(LED mouse USB)
    Keybord Cherry D-91275) (PS2)

Sometimes (not after a regular time) the mouse is frozen. Sometimes , it happens after a few hours, sometimes after a few days.
When it happes with the LED mouse, the LED is expired.
It is enough knock out short and places back the USB connection, to restore the operation of the mouse and also the PC.
Both mice are working correct on another PC.
I am thinking it is an hardware error, because the same error is found on Win 7 and also on Win XP.
I tried several USB ports, with the same result.

    Anybody same advice?

Also, are you using the latest AMD Chipset drivers?

If not, or you are not sure, you can download them here
      GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3 - GA-890FXA-UD5 (rev. 2.1)

        Thx for replay.

Yes, it's the last AMD driver.
The bios version is F3 (the last is F6)

I have flashed the bios to the last version (F6)

In Win Xp : remains the same problem.

In Win 7: i am not sure yet: possible ok, possible not: after a few days i know it for sure.

Re: Gigabyte GA-890FXA- UD5: malfunction of the mouse

Did you load optimized defaults in the BIOS after you flashed, then hit save/apply/F10 and reboot back to BIOS before making any changes?

If not please do, otherwise some BIOS changes between versions might not be applied properly.

I have not particulary referred to that, but after restart, all was placed default.

Is it necessary that i restart with optimized defaults?

Re: Gigabyte GA-890FXA- UD5: malfunction of the mouse

I would suggest it yes, especially since you are having issues.

Are you sure it's not just the system is frozen due to error, I mean when the mouse appears frozen can you still control+alt+del and bring up taskmanager or is it all frozen? If it's all frozen it may not be a mouse or keyboard issue at all, it might be faulty memory, or incorrect settings, ect.

Re: Gigabyte GA-890FXA- UD5: malfunction of the mouse

I will restart with the bios set optimized defaults, and give it a try.

The system is not frozen, only the mouse indicator is frozen.
It is enough the usb-connector shortly disconnect and everything works normal.

Do you rin any GB power saving utility?
Go to device manager and see if there is any power saving option enabled for this device.

Re: Gigabyte GA-890FXA- UD5: malfunction of the mouse

It very well could just be an incompatibility with those specific mice, can you test to see if it happens with any other USB mice.

If you have a PS/2 mouse you like, or a PS/2 adapter, you could solve this easy by using that and disable the setting I mentioned. I know it's not ideal, but it is a solution you could consider, and those PS/2 adapter are cheap and you probably already have one laying around somewhere

                          The issue is resolved.

I have "load optimized defaults in the BIOS" and placed back my settings, and after that everything was ok.
Sorrie, i thought this happened default.

Many thanks to everyone that was helpful, particulary to Lsdmeasap.

Re: Gigabyte GA-890FXA- UD5: malfunction of the mouse

I was thinking that the problem with the mouse was dissolved, but it was wishful thinking.
No one of the wired mousses plug in any USB port is working normal, they worked with interruptions and after a few time they are frozen. When the USB connector is plug out and in the mouse is working for short time.
When I plug in the mouse in the PS2 connector (with a PS2-USB adapter ) the mouse are working but occasionally with hitches.
                              I did the following proofs:

                              A) With wired mouse: Logitech laser mouse LS1 and Logitech Optical MX310
                              1) Both mouse gives the same error on all the USB ports on the PC
                              2) Both mouse gives the same error on the USB ports of a separate USB 3.0 PCIe controller card (Sharkoon)
                              3) Both mouse are working on the PS2 connector with USB-PS2 adapter , with little hitches.
                              B) Wireless mouse: Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0
Working normal on all USB ports.

                              c) All other devices on the USB ports (USB stick, scanner, printer and USB hard disk: function normally.

                              All suggestions are welcome.
