    Lsdmeasap --thanks again.
When I take this apart again I will use one of my kids camera and take a picture of the pins. Thanks for the info on switching out the motherboard if this happens.

Hey Lsdmeasap- I hope this picture of the pins works. Click image for larger version

Name:	pins.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	153.1 KB
ID:	751877 Update on this is, --a flight sim buddy of mine who lives in Canada has the same build as me or rather I --his--( I copied him,my first build ), anyway he had upgraded his bios to FF which is just one up from the original FA bios, and his is running fine so he recommended trying this just for jollies. Well I flashed using Q-Flash, and so far all has benn stable. I am just taking baby steps in changing things in the bios from the default optimal
setting. So far I have enabled XMP, HPET-64 bit, I set qpi/vtt to something like 1.215 ( this will be increased, I usually run this at 1.315 or 1.295 when overclocked to 1.35.) Usually if I just go in the bios and then reboot I usually will have the power off problem, so far it has run all day, with no problem I still have memory voltage on auto, and I usually enable c3/c6/c7 state support when overclocked but I still have this as the default disabled.
      take care and thanks--Robby

its good pic but too far away, you need to just fit the socket into the viewfinder/frame of the camera, like this

Well sorry about that fellows. If I take the heat sink off again I'll try another shot. ( Funny, I noticed the date and all shown also, I don't believe my daughter has set this on her camera--ha !!! ) Thanks Wazza for the picture demo, actually a very nice shot. I just finished 2 1/2 hours of online flying Rise of Flight with a online squad I belong to and everything did fine. Still no overclock but at least stable.

Great to hear your system is running smoothly for you now!

Did you edit the above image before posting it here? It's an odd size, so that's why I asked. It may have been OK for us to see, before it was resized, not sure though until I'd know the original size.

But ya, a little closer would be better and much larger image (Just post link here not insert image into thread). Sometimes too close isn't good with a shakey hand or an older camera, so only get as close to the board as shown above if you have a steady hand and good camera.

Using your current settings, can you now use a single stick in the #3 white slot without issue? If so, and all your memory is showing up now in BIOS, system properties, and task manager then you don't have any bent pins.

Thanks again Lsdmeasap, I will try the no. 3 slot boot and see if all works. All memory is showing in the bios and system properties , task manager shows as { Total--6142, Cached-1022, Available-4687, Free-3727 }.
thanks for all the great support, --rclark--

                Anytime, I'm happy to help!

That's great, 6GB total in task manager sounds like slot #3 is now working, so it should also boot a single stick by itself as well!

May I ask your advice on one other thing. In trying to reestablish the modest overclock of 3.5, I follow pretty much Wazza's template in his signature ,of course with the exception of bckl--160, mem multi--X10, should I try a bcl at 150 or something of that nature first before going to 160 or does this matter ? If you have any advice or recommend me refrain from any overclocking due to my previous issues, I am all ears.
                  thanks-rclark

160 would be fine to set to start with if you want! Don't not overclock just because you couldn't get it before, you can always go back. Save your current stable profile in the BIOS, using F11 to save (F12 is load for later).

Then you can do anything you want, and if it fails and you need to come back just load your saved profile until you have time to work on the overclock one again, which you'll also want to save it once you get started. Be sure you move the cursor down when you save, so you don't overwrite your first default saved stable profile.

Re: first bios update on X-58 ud3-r rev.2 ( question)

Well I tried getting things stable at 3.5 and nothing would work ( tried adding a bit DVID-- would not help,QPI/VTT up to 1.35 ). No matter what I did, it would power off shortly after a restart. I don't like to overclock past the point of having to add CPU voltage so if it is required to stabilize this it would defeat the purpose for me, so, I guess I will just stay at the default clock, at least it will run cooler--ha !!!!
Thanks again for all the help Lsdmeasap,

Re: first bios update on X-58 ud3-r rev.2 ( question)

Try not using DVID, I never use it and often see problems when people start trying to use it. Yes it works, and people use it, but I think it's much easier for users with stability issues to just manually set a voltage.

You'd have to give me the exact full settings you are trying at 3.5 when it fails, then I could help and advise back. I'm sure it's just a setting or two that you are missing or setting wrong, there's a link in my signature for a template to give me the full settings you are trying that fail, copy that to your desktop them print it out and fill it in by hand with your failed settings. Then come back here and paste the template into a reply with your settings edited into it.

CPU voltage increase shouldn't be needed for 3.5GHz, at least I wouldn't think so anyway, auto or manually setting stock should be ok. I'm not certain on that though, I've never tried to run 3.5 on any CPU for many years :)
