I GA-MA74GMT-S2 (rev 1.4) , AMD Phenom II x4 945 3.0ghz procssor 1 TB hard disk.

I thinK thats pretty much standard for all systems with 4gb memory, some may use a little more though

What if I add another 4Gb DDR3 to the existing desktop.

Will I get 7.87Gb usable???

I imagine you are losing memory to the integrated graphics on your motherboard.

Will it be useful if I upgrade the ram with another 4 gb?

Well I use 8GB and it depends on what you do with your computer. It sure won't hurt.

I recommend to not buy another 4gb and instead buy a matched set of 8GB. Mixing memory kits, even same models, can cause issues. Plus 4 sticks cause extra stress on controller and reduce performance a minimal amount.

and like Conners said, it depends on what programs you run on whether the extra memory will make a difference.

Typically 4GB will handle the job though.

what performance issues are you having and maybe we can offer advice.

The main is the data transfer rate which is not more than 35 - 40 mb/sec. How to improve that data transfer speeds.... and

See what windows Resource Monitor, Memory tab shows at the bottom of the window.
You might get some benefit with 8GB of memory, but you might have "issues" if your new memory doesn't closely match your existing memory.
Even if the new memory is the same brand and model, your might have difficulty getting the new memory to play nice with your current memory.
When I upgraded my P35 system, I could not buy matching memory, so I bought two 4GB kits to replace my former memory.
Total cost for 8GB of DDR2 1066 memory was $84 after mail in rebates.
I haven't yet gotten around to installing a 2GB ram disk to help with system performance.

what device is only giving these slow speeds? Internal hard drive? USB hard drive? I can't imagine that being your RAM memory speeds. Also, what program is report these speeds?

An SSD drive will greatly improve transfer speeds over hard drives, especially write speeds.

[QUOTEI have a kingston DDR 3 1333 4Gb so what ram should i go for if want more 4gb?[/QUOTE]

You can get any of the memory on the memory support list at gigabyte's website:
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3 - GA-MA74GMT-S2 (rev. 1.4)

I like getting generic low density type memory. without heat sinks on them like Dell, HP, Gateway, etc. use. I'd just buy an 8GB set instead of having two different 4GB sets.

I have used these on several boards with success:
Newegg.com - G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-8GBNT

or these Kingston:
Newegg.com - Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model KVR1333D3N9K2/8G

But they won't help much, if any, on your transfer rate problem.
