  • New PC build question

i just put together a new machine consisting of a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H motherboard and an intel i5-3570k CPU in a Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced case. I have a cooler Master TX3 CPU cooler on top of the CPU. I got in to the bios and see the idle temp for the CPU ranges between 37c and 40c. When i applied the thermal compound(Cooler Master High Performance) by placing a small amount on top of the cpu and slightly wiggling the cooler. I want to make sure that i did this step correctly since i'm not sure what the normal operating temp is for this cpu.
    CPU - Intel i5-3570k
    Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H
    BIOS Version - F18
    Ram - Corsair Vengence 1600 32GB (4 x 8GB)
    Op Sys - Win 8 64 bit on Crucial V4 64gb SSD
    Video Card - nVidia GT220
    1 500gb 7200 WD HDD in tower
    1 750gb 7200 Seagate HDD in tower
4 exteranl drives connected via USB or of which are 1tb each sata drives the other 2 are older drives of
    250gb and 500gb.
Cooler Master Case HAF 932 Advanced

temps are fine, remember that cpu will be running at full 3.5ghz until you enter windows so that power saving can be applied, then it will run at around 1.6ghz idle and full load clocks if needed,so idle temps will be around 22-30c

thanks i thought it was fine but i wanted to be sure. i haven't installed an os yet since i'm in the prelim phase. What do you mean but power saving can be applied? I'd like to post a bios template for this board later to be sure i have everything in order. Most of what i need can be handled with settings in the default mode. i forgot to mention i have 16gb of ram(Corsair vengence 1600)

the cpu speed/voltage can scale up and down depending on the cpu load,if browsing the web it will run at low clocks if gaming or heavy video editing it will run at full cpu speed/voltages,you can turn this feature off in the bios but it should not affect stability and helps to use less power and run cooler if enabled, all modern graphic cards do this aswell
