Re: Problem with UD5H & new gpu

Just for an update.....I contacted Gigabyte and they said to boot with no gpu cards installed using the onboard graphics.....and set the PCI Oprom to Legacy. Then save settings and stick the 7950 in.
Alright, I thought it seemed like great advice since I forgot to even check it. But it didn't work......
I sent them another message, will wait to see what they say.

I tried removing the battery for an hour or so and left the psu unplugged all night and repeating the procedure but no go.
Same thing, I can stick another card in the second slot and the 7950 in top slot works fine. Just freaking weird.
If Gigabyte doesn't come up with a fix I may reinstall F14 bios and try again. Currently the latest beta bios is installed. I don't understand why the board won't revert to defaults and recognize the 7950. I ALWAYS boot the first time with a graphics card on a new motherboard so the system will recognize it right off.

Re: Problem with UD5H & new gpu

Speedwise you are not missing hardly anything, but the problem doesn't sound like other bios (mobo or gpu) related problems. With Bios problem you usually didn't get any picture in any slot and yours work with 2nd gen bus. And it was the F4 F8 that had problems with new nvidia600 series cards, F14 should work ok just like f15. Have you tested other 3x card in that mobo? Does it have the reference looking cooler? Does it have all capacitors @ bottom backside above connector?

It's a reference card, just like my others. I have an EK block I haven't installed yet until I sort things out. I'm not putting my other cards in the slot because they have blocks installed and they are on my new Z87 I want to get fired up.
Something on the mobo is fubar is all I can figure out, the card performs very well as long as the second slot is occupied. >8400 3DMark11 baseline with no tweaks I think is performing OK.....

Did you read the link I posted? Theres picture for reference, easy to flipover the card and see backside if all capacitors (feeding the pciex3 lane) are installed. It's most likely you gfx card thats fubar.

Can't you test the 7950 in another mobo then, like leave waterblocked hanging on their hoses for short while and see if you get post pic with z87?

Gigabyte says the pcie slot is the problem and to RMA the board.

Yes unlike you lol, those reference 7950 are the ones that are missing parts.

Sure, if you say so. I've got two more that run pretty good crossfired since they rank in the top 60 3DMark11 for similar systems.
I just told you Gigabyte says the slot is fubar, but I guess you didn't want to see that since you are convinced my card is bad. Go "help" someone else, OK?

Re: Problem with UD5H & new gpu

I have the same issues with my Powercolor 7950 V2 card. I have a F14 bios on it. If the pcie is set to Gen3 or auto, the card wont post,if its set to Gen ist posts normal. Its in the first x16 slot, but the card only works at x8 2.0. So there another issue. I don't know if the x8 is affecting the performance, but at least its working.

I contacted the Gigabyte support and they said the same thing to do as they did to you. When that didn't work, they replied to contack my retailer for futher information. What a bunch of bullshrimp man. I've thrie the latest F15c bioses and the same thing happened. Getting frustrated here.

I guess you just don't read or just a troll, I don't know. If you read all the posts instead of coming up with some total nonsense about "missing parts" somewhere off the internet you might guess what's going on.
The card is sitting on another board and is running x16 pcie 3.0 just fine. Must be the "missing parts" suddenly reappeared, huh?
                      Missing parts, jeez.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It is the board that's the problem, though. I swapped the 7950 to another UD5H I have and it works fine at x16 3.0.
Since the other board is only going to be running a 6850 on another rig I'm not worried about fixing it now.

OK, here is what I know. I have two Z77 UD5H boards. One has problems with the card, and one doesn't. What would you think? Plus Gigabyte says it's the board and that I should send it in for repairs.
Going from past experience, I can get a board back from Gigabyte in 11-15 days after they get it....plus they return shipped UPS 3 day.

                            Your call, Nwanko.

Ah I just saw you are in Slovenia. Don't know where they repair boards over there.
