    Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming G1 and HGST Ultrastar He8 8TB hard drive - only seeing 2 TB

    I have a Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming G1 with a HGST Ultrastar He8 8TB hard drive. Honestly first time I have ever worked with a hard drive over 1 TB.

    So... how do I get my system (with Windows 10) to recognize more than 2 TB of this drive?

    Welcome to the forum.

    Format your hard drive using GPT.

    MBR formatting will only recognize ~2TB of drive space.

    I have several 3TB hard drives and with the GPT format I can have one, two or as many partitions as I want.

    You can use windows disk management or most third party partition manager software programs to set up your hard drive.

    A web search using: windows gpt format will provide additional information.

    There are additional requirements if you want to boot to a GPT drive.
