  • Crystal Orb

I just bought a Crystal Orb for my GeForce2 MX, I was happy because I won't have to underclock it anymore (bad cooling).

But after removing the heatsink and cleaning the GPU, I couldn't put the Crystal Orb, becuase some damn capacitors are near the GPU

    DAMN!!!!!!!!!:steam: :grr:

So I have a couple of questions:
What other uses has the Crystal Orb?
In what other vid cards can I use it?

I was planning to make new holes to the video card, but I guess it is impossible and risky, or maybe make some to the case and put it there just for some use. I don't want to see my money in the box.

    Thanks...

P.S. Do you think I can use the Double Sided thermal tape to secure the Crystal Orb with the video card? And not use the pins.

I put a blueorb on a gf2 mx a few weeks ago. It needed a bit of tweakin with the dremel to clear that component. The crystalorb is easier to grind since it's copper with nickel plate, so be careful.
    I did use the pins.

Cyrstal Orbs can also be used on mobo north bridges (some have used them on the south bridge as well) plus the Blue Orb is a bit smaller than the Cyrstal Orb.

I just put a Crystal Orb on my Saphire Radeon 9000 Pro 128mb last week... works like a charm

depending on how high the caps. r u might be able to shim the fan up a bit, meaning put some metal between the fan base and the vid. chip (copper would work best for thermal conductivity)

Wiggo. What are the benefits in the case I use it in the NorthBridge?

Maximus, you were lucky, is good that the caps aren't too close from the GPU.

Zaltec. Also is good to know that it works in other vid cards, like the Radeon 9000. :thumb:

Zerokool, the caps are too high, but that idea sounds interesting.

Thank you all for the answers.

Some ppl use them to replace passive heats on the northbridge so as to overclock higher with those that run warm (I've never had to resort to doin' though).

Adding a blueorb to the northbridge when I get home from work. On my radeon 9000pro, a bit of shaving was required for the card to plug all the way in to the agp slot and clear the next pci slot. That northbridge will burn a finger if touched.
