  • How to overclock E8400 on Gigabyte

Hello guys and thanks for your time. This is my first time overclocking and i cant wait! Can someone let me know the bios settings to set my E8400 to 3.6Ghz?I really don't want to take it to 4.0Ghz yet since its my first time =) Here is my set up.

    Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L
    Intel E8400 3.0Ghz

Re: How to overclock E8400 on Gigabyte

    1. Decrease memory multiplier to minimum allowed...usually 2.0

    2. increase the fsb value slowly until you reach 3.6 ghz...that would be 3600/9 = 400FSB.

Voltages should not be changed...leave at around 1.2V or less ifu can get it stable with a lower value.

Re: How to overclock E8400 on Gigabyte

OK done! only one question on Computer panel properties shows E8400 @ 3.00GHz 3.60GHz??? Does that mean only one core is at 3.60Ghz?

          Is it suppose to show E8400 @ 3.60GHZ 3.60GHz???

I run CPUz and it shows it at 3.0ghz.

          Thank you.

I take it you using vista? No it doesnt mean only one core is running at 3.6 it just shows what the chip is ment to be and what it is. Mine reads E8500 @3.16ghz 3.8ghz but CPU-Z and real temp 3.0 also show it @ 3.8 400X9.5 if your CPU-Z says 3.0 then something may not be right. Get real temp 3.0 and see what it says? On a nother not for some reason in my computer properties it used to show E8500 @ 3.16Ghz 3.8Ghz even when I was running it @ 3.6Ghz 400X9. DOnt know why but everything else was saying 3.6.

              no, it's a 3.0 chip....running at 3.6

Right now I'm running a 3ghz P4 @ 3.45 and it shows up similarly to what you just described.

this has just made me realise that he could be talking about the specifications line in cpu-z, it will always say what the cpu is out of the box. look at the core speed to see what the actual clock speed is when overclocked.

Cool yea CPUz does show current speed @3600Mhz once i start doing a couple of tasks . The temp is still the same at idle =) 37C

Re: How to overclock E8400 on Gigabyte

Oh I see, You have the throttling enabled in the BIOS Still, yeah at idle it lowers the Multi. You should probably disable this as it may cause an unstable overclock. Some people get away with it on but the majority turn it off. The two options in the BIOS you need to disable are CPU EIST function & CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E). This is a good read. http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/giga...g-guide-26112/

p.s 37 at idle is very acceptable.
