  • Q8200 OC New to the game, need help...

Hi. I'm really new to this deal, I've tried OC'ing before, but thought of it as being too risky. Now that I have a decent setup for good cooling, I am prepared especially now that I have a Q8200. Can anyone help me figure this out?

    System specs:

    • CPU: Q8200
    • MOBO: EVGA 780i
    • RAM: 4GB Corsair Dominator
    • Thermal Compound: Cooler Master ThermalFusion 400
    • Heatsink: Cooler Master V8

I have my Q8200 running at a MILD OC at about 2.8Ghz. I just changed the FSB to what I needed and kept the RAM AT OR BELOW the 1066 (my RAM speed, your's may be different) and keep an eye on the CL, tRCD, tRP, tRAS (ie 5:5:5:15) and you should have no problem getting your Q8200 running at a higher frequency.

The Q8200 is better than some people say. Mine has been great!

Re: Q8200 OC New to the game, need help...

I had mine running at 2.8, but decided to go down a bit to 2.63 cause of some issues with Empires Total War, but turns out I'm not the only one that has issues with that game.

I am satisfied with an OC to 2.8, so i don't see why it would be such a bad CPU, plus with my V8 heatsink and decent thermal compound, I really can't complain.

What exactly are those CAS or latency, 5:5:5:15 thingy? I never understood exactly what that meant....

you can control the ram mhz speed by fiddling with the SPD option, make sure you also set the MCH latch to the proper setting, before choosing an SPD.
