  • OVERCLOCK HELP: Gigabyte UD3R REV 1.6 - i7 930 - Gskill 3x 2GB 1066 MHz

    Hi Lsdmeasap,

I have been reading this forum for the last six months wishing i have a proper rig, reading alot of posts, i just finished building my rig, my baby 3 days ago, so i finally registered. Obviously this is the site for overclocking and all the pros are here, so please help me overclock my cpu, i'd really appreciate it.

There are the specs for my pc:

    Case: Thermaltake V9
Psu: Thermaltake 650Watt (got an 860Watt if need be)
    HDDs: WD 1TB 64MB cache 10,000RPM, G.Skill 128GB SSD, G.Skill 64GB SSD
    Mobo: Gigabyte-UD3R rev 1.6
    CPU: Intel i7 930 2.8GHz
    Memory: G.Skill F3-10666CL9T-6GBNQ 6GB (3x2GB) PC3-10666 (1333MHz) DDR3 Triple Channel RAM, 3x240-pin DIMMs, Non ECC Unbuffered, 9-9-9-24, G.Skill Heat Spreader, 1.5V
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4890 1GB
    Networking: ASUS Wireless PCI
    Cooling: Corsair H50 WaterCooler

I am not a noob, but I am not the best overclocker around and i keep failing, my target OC is 3.8 GHZ stable, so Please help me

    Thank you in advance,
    Zarbo

Thanks for making a new thread!

Can you please give me your full current settings in a template from my signature, then I can advise back.

Please also let me know what BIOS version you are using, if you are not sure you can look in the mainboard tab of CPU-z or by pressing F9 on the MAIN page of the BIOS.

        Re: OVERCLOCK HELP: Gigabyte UD3R REV 1.6 - i7 930 - Gskill 3x 2GB 1066 MHz

Ahh ok. Well please be sure you are starting from Optimized Defaults, not Fail Safe.

Then try these settings for 3.6Ghz, 3.8Ghz is a bit tricky with your memory as none of the memory mutli's come close to being right at 1333Mhz.

If you use 22 Multi then you can use 170 Bclk for 3.8Ghz, but 22 multi is often unstable and needs far more voltages than 19 or 21, which is why I did not suggest using it

BSOD Error codes and what they mean:
0X00000050 << Incorrect Memory Timing/Freq or Uncore Multi
        0X00000124 << Incorrect QPI/Vtt Voltage (To Much/Not Enough)

Thank you so much brother, intel burn test confirmed stable, i probably don't need more than 3.6 GHz on a quad core...

Thanks again, you are the man

            Wow, no kidding!!??

No tweaking necessary to get it stable right off the bat eh? That's cool, I guess all you need to do know is try lowering voltages if you want and or tinker to improve performance.

Glad to hear this worked out easy for you! Post back anytime if you need help tinkering with things if you go for that.

I'm going to use the info on this thread for my first ever overclock. Hope that some of you guys are going to be around this evening or tomorrow if I get stuck. My GA-X58A-UD3R board is Rev. 1 with F5 bios. My RAM is kind of quirky too, and what I've read you have set all the timings. Hopefully I have enough information to get me going.

Thanks for the response. I copied the BIOS stuff for submitting my settings. Looks like it will be tomorrow before I have a large enough block of time to tinker (too many "honey do's") today.

Thanks for the response. I spent a good bit of the day with no starts, BSOD's, etc... Finally got it running and it appears to be "stable" for the moment. I tried so many different settings, I have no idea what I've got in there that finally worked. I believe it is somewhere around 3.9GHz and my temps are good after 30 minutes of prime95. I'm off tomorrow and will get it posted for your inspection and suggestions. My eyes are crossing right now!
