  • help overclocking a 980 watercooled

    Hi

i have just finished building my first home built and home watercooled pc.

I have overclocked my cpu to 4.1 by changing the multi to 30 and the cpu vcore to 1.35 and the temp is around 56 with prime95.

The gpu i have at the mo is a 480gtx, not oc'ed. it is running about 45 maxed out. I am getting another to sli them but as you can guess i need help with oc'ing them.

My questions can i go higher and if so can you help?

Also i had trouble with my memery but i bought another set. it is a 1600 set but i had to go in to the bois and change it to 1600. is that norm?

Yes its 1066mhz default, just raise the spd mem multi to raise memory speed, you should hit 4.2+ with that chip, did you manually set dram voltage according to spec too?

The memory in your sig should have ran automatically at 1600, is it the same?

Re: help overclocking a 980 watercooled

        hi

I had all ready changed the multi from 10 to 12 so it is now 1600 and also set the voltage to what the maufature wanted. The problem i had with the last set of memoery was that it was a 1333 set but would only see all 12gb if i turned it down to 1066. g.skill ripjaws ddr3 1333 pc2 10666 9 9 9 24 1.5v.

With getting the cpu above 4.2 is it just a case of uping the multi and vcore?

The Vengeance kit has XMP profile, this should have set it to 1600 automatically.
The Ripjaes should have XMP too I believe.
To see all ram at higher frequency try increasing QPI/Vtt to 1.25-1.35v

Yes I understand that. How much ram do you have now?
As I said you need more QPI/Vtt for 12GB memory.

I am not sure about what speeds i am looking for, i want to push my system but not as far as it can go if that makes sence. At the current settings my cpu will top out at 56c while running prime95 for 6hrs and the gpu at 45c while play crysis on high for 5 or 6 hrs. I have a full water cooling kit if that helps?

Thanks in advance for everyones help.

Try this for 4.2, then if you need more adjust Bclk up a little bit.

This will be 4.2Ghz, with memory at 1680. I don't know your timings since you never posted your model, so you'll need to set them to what you know they need for 1600Mhz

                    Hi

Sorry for the delay. I try the setting you suggested. I had a couple of probs with the momery not posting all of it. Once i got it all to post ok i let it boot normally but it would not even get to the windows log in screen. With disabling the xmp the memory ould not post but changing it to profile 1 i posted. Also when i was changing screens the multi kept changing back to 25.

Am i able to just incress the multi to get more out of it? As i have only changed the vcore to 1.35 and the multi to 30 to get 4.1?

*In my last post i said the multi was 35 but it was 30*

On a side note i have just oc'ed my 480 to core volt 1.125. core 900. shader 1800. memory 2200. at idle about 33 and with furmark or kombuster topping out about 51.
