Hey this maybe a noob question, but I have not had to buy cards in a long time and in starting my quest I am noticing that some of the pcie cards don't have the 6-pin connector. What's the deal?
Thanks
I know that they can have the 6 or 8 pin, that is what I am used too. It's the some of the cards I see that are, for example theXFX PVT95GYALG GeForce 9500 GT does not have a imput for power when other cards of this class and higer do.
The PCIE slot can provide a certain amount of power to the video card. It is rated up to 75 Watts. So, if the GPU does not use any more than that, it needs no supplemental connection. And, for those wondering, a 6 pin is rated to 75 Watts and an 8 pin to 150 Watts.
